|Reviews for Ennead: Season Zero|
| ofspiritsandpuzzles chapter 27 . 3/26
Gosh, I can't sing enough praises for this fic-this is now my third time reading it, and I still adore it just as much as the very first time I read it. First of all, I love Season 0 and any fanworks based off of it, but surprisingly enough there are very few (completed or actively ongoing) S0 fics, let alone one as amazing as this. True, there were some typos/grammatical errors here and there, and I personally am not really a fan of gratuitous Japanese in fics (though tbh calling fem!Yami "Oneesan" did grow on me and was pretty cute, especially considering how Jou came up with the name teasingly and it ended up sticking), but I honestly think those would be my only complaints as far as the entire fic goes, which really says a lot. Your characterizations were spot on, which is one of the first things I look for in a fic-no matter how good the premise of the fic, if it's OOC I just can't read it-but not only was everyone IC (your Jou in particular is */amazing/* and I absolutely adore how you wrote him), but they weren't just carbon copies of the manga either. Their relationships, especially the relationship between Jou & Yuugi and Jou & Oneesan (I think I could ramble for hours on how much I love their interactions in this fic), were similar enough that it was still IC but unique enough that it still felt like an original story despite all the familiar events taken from the manga. Which leads me to my next point: you managed to weave together the manga chapters so perfectly that I felt like it actually flowed */better/* than the original manga, to the point where I actually had to stop and think about how certain events happened at different points in the manga because they just flowed and felt so right the way you wrote them out. This wasn't just a novelization of the original manga with a genderswapped Yuugi (and genderswapped Bakura, which I also loved), but rather an original twist that was a pleasure to read, and re-read, and re-read again. (Also, I loved how you actually worked out an explanation for why Yami/Atem is actually genderswapped as well instead of just writing it off as "oh if Yuugi's a girl then Yami has to be a girl too"; the small flashback scene when Shadi is in their mind was really interesting and I look forward to how you'll expand on it in the Duelist Kingdom arc!) You have no idea how happy I was when, after finishing reading through this fic the second time, I checked on the sequel out of curiosity and saw "Updated: 6 hrs ago" (talk about good timing, lol)-I don't usually like to start reading fics that are left unfinished for over a year, so I never actually started reading the sequel until I finished re-reading this fic, and I love it so far (but I'll save my praise for a review on that fic, maybe after the next chapter is posted [hinthintnudgenudge]). I would have left a glowing review for this fic then, but I was actually out of the country when I got the urge to re-read some old fics that I had bookmarked, and I originally intended on just jumping to the last chapter and leaving my review today but I ended up re-reading the fic again instead (lol). I'll end my rambling review by saying thank you for this wonderful fic, and I eagerly look forward to all future updates on the sequel!

Wow. That was intense. Thank you so much for writing it! I've really enjoyed it! Binged the whole thing in under 24 hours.

Dude...this backstory change is INCREDIBLE
you've brought up so many questions and changed since much that even though we all know the original we can't even begin to guess what's happening here and if anything you're playing off of what we think we know and what we expect and it's amazing! You're such a good writer! !

Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when you're angry." Jou murmured in a low voice, causing Honda to shove him.
Oh Jou, no
Not the time or place buddy
But it's still flipping hilarious

nobody's business except that of the police and the Mutous
Oh, and Jous, I forgot for a moment he hadn't changed his surname yet. Because let's face it, he's an honorary member of the Mutou family by this point
And isn't that something to be celebrated?

I love how you're gradually making her femininity more obvious and overt, especially since we'll be seeing her in the female uniform soon! I'd almost forgotten about her hair, but now that you mention it it has been a while sine she mentioned growing it out

"Their grandfather", "other granddaughter", I just love these details! They're a flipping family and it's beautiful

Jeez that was amazing
Especially "something within her singing at having the Dark Magician at her side; the same something that warned her off of putting Kaiba out of commission permanently."
That...I've been looking forward to the hope the Kaiba had for becoming better people since they first appeared
But I was not expecting the inclusion of Dark Magician in that, and these what I love about you're writing - even when we all know the original, we know what changes you've made do far and such, you still surprise us, and in three right way, in subtle buy stikulatenously important ways as opposed to sudden drastic changes
It makes it feel rewarding to be a fan of the show and of his fic

"For the first time Yugi wasn't just calling the spirit of the Puzzle 'big sister' like the rest of the gang did, she was claiming the girl within her Puzzle as her big sister, as part of her family proper."
I can die happy now
