Reviews for The Last Casualties
Jake Crepeau chapter 17 . 6/20/2022
Like you, I've never met the Queen, but I understand she has a positively wicked sense of humor. An example I once read was when she was speaking to an author about his latest work; he commented that the book was nearly finished, then said, "Now all I need is a title." Completely straight-faced, she came back with, "Well, I see no reason to give you one." I nearly fell over laughing when I read that one.

It's rather like living where I do in the Southern US. If you belong to a Catholic parish, you feel as if there are Catholics everywhere, yet Catholics only comprise about 2% of the population. The Catholic community in my state is so small, that the entire state is one diocese. After living in Brooklyn for the first 25 years of my life, where the Diocese of Brooklyn comprised only two of the boroughs of New York City (Brooklyn and Queens), it was rather jarring when I first moved here.

Also consider these two real-world facts: a) Hermione is a genius; such children are usually mature for their age. b) Harry was abused; depending on the type and level of abuse, it can also force children to mature early as they develop survival techniques. And an in-world fact: Magical society is pretty much stuck in the late Victorian/early Edwardian era. I don't know how it was in England at the time, but I do know that here in the States, comportment, elocution, and etiquette lessons forced early maturity on children in high society. I heard all the stories from my Dad, who had to endure those lessons in his own childhood. He always said that the one good thing the Great Depression did was end that lifestyle for a lot of high-society families, his own included.

Surprised you didn't have Hermione taking up residence beside Harry on the bed.

My maternal grandmotherher sisters played Gin rummy, or Penny Enny as they called it. But none of them took as seriously as to knock a newbie on the hand for playing a poor card.

A very entertaining and well crafted tale. I sincerely hope you've recovered and are still bringing joy to someone, somewhere.

If Harry had turned to seek out a Professor, the first year Badgers would have been in Pomfrey's hospital beds. Then again, Harry could have sent his patronus with the message.

Find myself reading through your works and just wanted to say thank you. Perhaps one day an author with franchise their characters so that writers like yourself could be rewarded

Hey! Are you ever going to revive the story? It's so good!
Lady Stardust 619 chapter 32 . 2/15/2022
Almost 5 years since this update. I'm guessing this story has been abandoned. Pity that.

Such a magnificent story. It is serious, heart wrenching and full of epic moments. Brilliant. Cliffie, though. As you said in the A/N :D

I love this story, I miss Luna quite a bit and saddens me that whole this story is progressing she is alone somewhere. But thars the choice the author makes.
I am loving the story so much, that too being an atheist. I really liked the way Hermoine's foray into church was portrayed. Those church goers were gems.

I enjoyed the explanation of how Lily sees Snape and her threat to him about Harry lol. Too many fanfic authors make out Snape as some sad, misunderstood victim. Snape apologists, I call them lol. The only way he can really be redeemed as a character is if someone rewrites him from Harry's first year, and maybe even earlier. All his actions towards Harry and the other kids shows him to be a bully and a scumbag, not a man seeking redemption from his dead love. A couple helpful actions in the 7 book series don't make up for his everyday cruelty. He may have fought for "the good guys", but he was a horrible person.

And many of his actions probably had far reaching negative consequences, like too few potions experts, aurors, and healers, or too many of those with bigoted leanings (which would've helped voldemort with his easy takeover of the ministry). His shielding and encouragement of bigoted Slytherins also probably helped encourage pure blood bigotry too, rather than having a teacher that actually tried to discourage it, although the fault for that starts at the top, with Dumbmedore.
