Reviews for Ballade of Truisms |

![]() ![]() I love this piece - every couple of months I remember your description of Moriaty's injuries, and I find it so compelling. The movement from fear to disgust to pity, on John's part, (and the mention that Moriarty looks *surprised*) is so well-done and vivid. Thank you for writing these vignettes; it is really a good story, and sums up most of the reasons why I appreciated the first seasons of Sherlock so much. |
![]() ![]() ![]() You are brilliant. Spot on the characters and I wish that is what had happened that little Irish jerk. Love it. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Beautiful, the way you channeled the original stories and yet capture the image of BBC Sherlock so well. And there's a whole other level of artistry in the way you articulate the emotions and thoughts beneath the words. I heartily enjoyed this. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Not only does it "work"- your approach is really refreshing because you write about John's pleasure in being the one who writes so that Sherlock's name will be remembered. Too many fanfic writers forget that this was Watson's greatest contribution and that he takes considerable pride in that fact. Moffat/Gatiss would agree with your version. I wonder whether that will show in the "hiatus" between Series Two and Three. |
![]() ![]() ![]() oh my - what a brilliant piece of writing. Why have I never come across that before, it's so OBVIOUS. John saying to Mycroft, ""I worry about him," John admits. It's the first time he's said anything like it, even after too many drinks with Lestrade. The words fall softly in the snow, and the world doesn't break, so he takes a breath. "Constantly." This is what makes you one of my favourite writers! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Honestly, I don't know why you don't have more reviews for this story. Your characterizations are excellent, not to mention your easy, flowing prose. I really liked John and Sherlock's friendship - the first chapter had me worried for a bit, but then when John figured out what to do to recall Sherlock to himself, I was so relieved. I love how you tied John's memories so seamlessly into the thread of the overall story. And I really liked Lestrade and his reminiscing about how Sherlock used to be, and John's realization of how well the DI knows Sherlock. Finally, I admire your portrayal of Moriarty! The 'surprise' burned onto his face was such a strong moment; of course he would have been shocked that Sherlock outwitted him. Overall, this story was wonderful, and I loved how not only you created a theory for Season 2, but buuilt it in such a way that through John's careful and discerning eyes, it was wholly believable. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Just found this, and have to say I really like how you wove old stories, like the Red-Headed League and the original Scandal in here - you didn't have to explain much, didn't have to go into too many details, but there was just enough for us to recognize the cases, updated as they were, very clearly, and it was very fun. I like how you wove the story of what happened at the pool through the chapters as well. We never get a full, detailed picture from the characters or you, but what we get is more than enough for us to fill in the blanks. I love your writing! Keep it up! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I love your writing. :) Also, I loved the ACD cannon incorporations :) great stuff. I would love it if they really did use a video conference in the real episodes, now that you've put the idea in my head. xD TY for posting. |
![]() ![]() ![]() It was beautifully-written, the characters were perfect... What can I say, that someone else hasn't already? |
![]() ![]() ![]() Great job incorporating and updating some of the original Doyle stories! What a pleasure to read! Keep writing! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Brilliant. I thought I'd found all the well-written, non-slashy Sherlock fic there was around here, but you've definitely proved me wrong! You've captured all the characters beautifully - especially Lestrade. I have a major soft spot for him and I love that you've given him the credit he deserves. :D Rather than spam your inbox with reviews for your other Sherlock fics, let me just say that I've loved each one of them. Not only is your characterization spot-on, your writing is top quality and your stories are fascinating. :) I can't wait to read more! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Aw, love the ending! So cute! If only Sherlock and John were the hugging type...but they're not, lol. I can see Sherlock just stiffening up if anyone tried. GREAT work on this, can't wait for your next Sherlock fic! Cheers! ~Rose |
![]() ![]() ![]() I've gushed, I think, in every review, but I'm just so engrossed in the story while marvelling at the beauty of how it all ebbs and flows. Love it! |
![]() ![]() ![]() No blame here - still thoroughly enjoying it and wondering why I didn't read this sooner. Your prose is lovely. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I think you were spot-on with Lestrade, and I really like how you deepened the relationship between him and John. Very nicely done. |
