Reviews for Suddenly I See |

![]() ![]() Sorry, but no. I tend to shy away from stories with an over-abundance of angst and this sounds like it would be full of horrible, triggery sub-plots. Plus, I have no interest in the whole infertility issue or seeing Lizzy, a character I adore for her spirit and confidence and surety of her self-worth, be reduced to an obsessive, sobbing mess. (And just so we're clear, this is my opinion about the subject matter, not the quality of your writing.) |
![]() ![]() I like both endings, but I think I like the 2nd one better...it WAS a big surprise. |
![]() ![]() ![]() great start, go for it! I would read and follow along for sure! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Sounds good so far thanks for sharing. |
![]() ![]() ![]() p.s. Please don't go the surrogacy route or any cheating route please! Huhuhu |
![]() ![]() Sounds very interesting! Please don’t write a story about Darcy and Elizabeth using someone to impregnate her! |
![]() ![]() I think it is an interesting premise for a story and I would read it even though I also have personal experience with infertility. I don’t have any Regency information about infertility, but I will say that I think nobody really knows what they would do in that situation unless they experience it for themselves. For example I was absolutely certain that I wouldn’t be able to give myself an injection but when my husband was unavailable when I needed to take it, I put that needle against my thigh and pushed it right in. |
![]() ![]() I very much enjoyed the second chance to do it better alternate ending. |
![]() ![]() I just reread SIS, it's one of the very firts fanfic I read and I have come back to it from Time to time, so for your new histoy it sounds so interesting but so angs because to sufer to be together and then to no have the oportinity ir patherood, and with that mother of hers, but it's so temting to have you writing a p&p again, it's a hard choice, dont make me cry too much please |
![]() ![]() ![]() this new story looks promising. i look forward to its development. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I think you should continue this new story - PROVIDED that E & D DONT adopt Wickham's kids. That I couldn't stomach... |
![]() ![]() ![]() This first chapter is very nice and I liked it. But if you're looking for personal opinions? Here's mine: Even in the 21st century, infertility is a painful, triggery topic. People go to great lengths, even becoming dupes of snake oil salesmen, for a chance at getting natural children. It was naturally worse in Regency. And in relation to Lizzy and Darcy, a story revolving around the topic of infertility can only be full of heavy, heavy angst. Just thinking about it gives me shivers. Since even today too many people consider infertility the woman's fault, it'd naturally be the case in Regency as well. I do not even want to think about the so-called treatment for infertility. This is what my imagination sees as the only outcome to it: Mrs Bennet's ugly reproves. Mr Collins's slimy insinuations that it's divine justice for being a self-respecting, outspoken woman, for refusing his hand in marriage, for daring to marry his patroness' nephew and gaining higher social standing. Lady Catherine considering it divine justice for Lizzy reaching beyond her sphere and for defying her. The rest of Darcy's family, with Lady C leading the pack, with increasing strength hinting that maybe Darcy should consider annulment or divorce. These attacks from all around and their own emotions about the infertility straining the Darcy couple's marriage greatly. Just... *shudders* In a marriage as unequal ad the Darcy couple's, I don't have a good enough imagination to see how such a thing would not destroy their marriage utterly. Sorry for rambling on. What I'm trying to say is basically this: It is a great topic to build a story around if you do your research well and not veer off into unreasonable melodrama territory. Considering "Suddenly I See" it's only reasonable to assume you'll do a good job writing even a fic with such a topic. There are a lot of people who'd like a story with as heavy angst as this one would have, so I don't think you'd lack for readers. Personally speaking, I wouldn't read that story, because heavy angst and triggery topic and what not. But you said you'd do research for historical accuracy, and that alone is an argument for you writing that story, in my opinion. :) Too often people take their ideas of everything - history, medicine, etc. etc. - rather from what they've read in other stories than doing their own research for whatever reason. It's one way how fanon gets created. But that tends to spread misinformation around more often than not. So if you use correct information in your story and it gets spread around? A solid win for fandom, I'd say. Besides, It'd be interesting to see how you would save Lizzy and Darcy's marriage, because my imagination fails me on that front. |
![]() ![]() ![]() It would be wonderful if you could fit in the time to develop this story! |
![]() ![]() This new year has lots of authors reviving their old forgotten stories... so yay! Keep it up guys! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Looks like the start of a good story. I'm interested to see how you'll handle the subject matter. Getting this update makes me want to come back to pride and prejudice fanfiction. I hadn't realised how long it's been since I read any. |
