WARNING SPOILERS FOR STORY AHEAD.
Came across this on Tv Tropes, and read the story many months back, but for some reason I was too lazy to review. Now I've come back to finally review only to discover you've discontinued this story, but thankfully will be doing a rewrite/remake, but I'm going to review anyway.
I must say this was one hell of a story, lol I must say the setup for this story was different, at least as far as my experiences with Madoka Magica fanfics go outside of crossovers. So, basically Madoka and Homura switched positions at the end of the time line, but instead of going on a quest to simply change their fate, Madoka and a resurrected Homura instead end up in a new world where things are different.
The results of Madoka's wish besides the new world... quiet interesting, the new magical girls they become are a interesting idea and kind of cool too. Not often you come across a character whose powers are literally born from their inner demons. Another part of it all I found ammusing is that the witches and the veneficus's battles against them are not a secret, and that the magical girls are also celebrities.
The witches in this world are different as well, main reason why the world knows of them is because they don't have barriers, or have their familiars doing all the work for them, but instead attack the cities like any other giant monster. Most interesting difference in them are the remenants, which from the sounds of it and their depiction, remenants and witches have a symbiotic relationship (unwilling on the remenats part).
The girls themselves in this story besides original Madoka and Homura received some interesting changes too.
Mami went from being a nice, but lonely girl who really wanted a friend to being a confident young lady who was basically the idea image for the Veneficus Puella to the public, but... is blood lusted in battle and secretly... in a relationship with Kazuko?! Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka's teacher?! lol she is pretty much the most different dispiction of all of the girls.
Sayaka isn't much different, of course a key difference in her character here is that she no longer has any interest in Kyousuke and istead a lesbian. The lack of any romantic interest in Madoka only because she feels like a sister to her makes sense. She is still idealistic though, and seems to be much more tempermental thanks to her past. Becoming a child's guardian (and acquiring the trait of being a mama bear) was a interesting addition to her character and one I enjoyed.
Kyouko hmm... doesn't really seem to be much different besides being a lesbian (then again, we didn't exactly know her orientation in canon) she wasn't antagonistic and was much nicer, but apparently has a nack for being reckless. Her becoming Sayaka's partner in taking care of Yoshio was definitly interesting to see play out.
Other Madoka and Homura were definitly interesting to read about, getting KyuBey to grant their wish to become Veneficus Puella, and of course becoming partners to go on a quest to save everyone like canon Homura did for Madoka, and nearly became just like her. What eventually happened was rather unexpected though.
The alternate Incubators were certainly different.
EnBey is riot! Pretty much KyuBey's opposite, while KyuBey is white with red eyes, and speaks politly while almost always calm, EnBey is black with blue eyes and is rude and full of emotion, and doesn't hide anything either to the point of telling what he thinks. His habit of using tropes to identify things was kind of funny too.
TorBey and, alternate KyuBey were a interesting pair, TorBey of course came off as more antagonistic in how he did things unlike KyuBey. KyuBey of course wasn't really different, besides having gold eyes, he did his usual manipulating except doing it from afar than doing it himself and with different methods like some magnificent bastard.
I also really liked the expanded roles of Madoka's mother and Kazuko, while I already liked Madoka's mother in canon, she was made even more awesome here (such as being a mama bear). While Kazuko was more than just a goofy teacher.
As for the story it self, hmm... one hell of a ride! Starts off calm after Madoka makes her wish as if everything turned out how she wanted it too, then BAM! Everything begins to escalate. Witches don't always hide they attack, magical girls are heroes who don't exist as rumors, or fiction and are celebrities, which wasn't quiet what Madoka and Homura expected. One can tell this version of their world is a reverse of theirs, The Incubators failed to remain in secret and behind the scenes behind humanity's advances, as did the witches and magical girls. And thanks to EnBey in this world, being a magical girl doesn't suck anymore, except for the part anout the fans and reporter perhaps...unless you love attention. Of course the misery came anyway, through TorBey and KyuBey's schemes, or brought about by people. All of the chaos caused by those factors wouldn've ended with one crazy battle, shame we didn't get to see it play out in detail.
Of course besides the crazy awesome story, one of the best highlights (for me and others of course) were Madoka and Homura. In terms of their portrayal compared to canon especially after one version of the story, it was pretty accurate. However it was their relationship that was most enjoyable, which kept developing as things moved, and actually helpped one another out their issues too even when one issue nearly destorys the city. Best part of it all of course was when it became MadoHomu.
Of course Sayaka and Kyouko's relationship was quiet enjoyable as well, and even had the same level of development, but of course like many Madoka Magica fans, MadoHomu is my favorite pairing in this series.
As already said, awesome story, shame it wasn't finished, though you told us what basically would've happened. I can understand why you didn't like what you saw while reading it over, the story did get pretty wild and ridiclious at times and there were a lot of trope/meme shout outs at times (wasn't a big deal to me though), I thought those were part of the story's charm.
Well looking forward to the rewrite when you manage to get it off the ground. Until then, I'll perhaps look into your other fanfics.

Wow this fic is amazing, I am sad that you didn't finish it but happy your not abandoning the story just rebuilding it. I thought that this story was wonderful and one of the best fics I've read on pmmm(puella magi Madoka magica). U deserve a reward for having patience with this story by making it as detailed as possible *claps really loud* an excellent job you've done so far! Well done! I will be looking forward to that fic!
| Phantom of the Fiction chapter 27 . 2/22/2013
I remember finding this story earlier, but how did I not story watch it?! Damn, I wish you luck on this rebuild, cuz the epic ness is going to be pretty hard to imagine.
| Broth3r chapter 26 . 2/16/2013
I know the feeling, bro. Every time I look at the start of my first story in FFN, I roll my eyes. That’s a big part of the reason why I started this, instead of finishing Against Destiny (I WILL do it, however). It’s almost painful. But I regret nothing, and I say that with the most theatrical and honest voice I have. And I don’t know if you do, but you shouldn’t. For all its flaws, MMVP was stupidly, crazily, and hilariously awesome - and no, not just in crack. If you feel like you need to improve, you should, but don’t dare losing that touch. Or I’ll deliver a bucket of LCL right to your door tomorrow.
And I want to see that first chapter on my screen pretty soon. Or else. But until then, I’ll avenge you, you crazy bastard.
| pi chapter 26 . 2/2/2013
thanks for letting us know. your an awesome writer :)
| Psykoakuma chapter 27 . 1/31/2013
Crazy that you're abandoning the story like this. I completely believe your motivation though. I don't think there are many authors who would easily give up on a fic after it became so popular. I'm pretty sure lots of people would love to have such a nice following. You must really be unhappy with how it turned out.
| Master DV chapter 27 . 1/31/2013
Eh, I loved this story morde so don't be to hard on yourself. The thing about writers is that we love our work but we hate what we create. Its something about us that makes us continually grow and improve as a writer. Reading ANYTHING you wrote in the past is going to cause you rage because as you improve as a writer you also are able to see more flaws in your past works. Its natural to feel like you did so don't beat yourself up over it.
On that note I would offer to beta read your stuff, I work on my own writing but I've been in a slump as of late and this could help me revitalize myself by doing some editing. I can adjust to any schedule you have and I have been told that I am a calm and level headed person. So if you would like; I would be honored to be your beta.
| DayDreamer9 chapter 26 . 1/30/2013
Do whatever it is that makes you feel comfortable; I will stand by you no matter what.
Besides (morbid as I am), I'm curious to see this new version of MMVP and what'll happen this time around. They say that you need to love what you write and, if you don't love the original, then it's time for a rehall.
| Anonymous chapter 6 . 1/30/2013
Stop namedropping tropes. It's fucking cringeworthy.
| webidolchiu94 chapter 26 . 1/30/2013
Well, I'm sure you're right. I would've accepted that previous ending, but hey you're the author. I have a similar problem for my Madoka story, actually. Endings can be...problematic. (My story has too many plot threads, and I get tangled in them...)
Still, I am awaiting the next chapter. High School is rough. I just finished too, last May.
...I wish I could give some criticism myself, but I'm too lenient at times. I for one liked the original, but I will enjoy rereading it to see the changes.
| Triser chapter 26 . 1/30/2013
It happens, I like the idea behind this, and I do like what you have planned with the rebuild. I'll read the new version.
| dragonblack chapter 26 . 1/30/2013
Thanks for giving us this update, good to know what is happening up ins.
(also your an was...Funny. What the fuck even, dude. I enjoyed reading that AN.)
You have improved markedly through the course of this think, if you think you can't end the story as it stands, then by all means, re-write-away. It is admirable that you are not willing to settle.
But, still. Feel free to keep us posted! Start a tumbr or something, we'll all (allme) read it.
