|Reviews for North, South, East and West|
| Random WAussie chapter 1 . 8/12
Ha! So true! As mentioned in a previous review, I'm pretty sure the only reason WA isn't its own country is because of the British, so yeah. The rivalry between the states is funny. According to certain family members of mine, Tasmanians have three heads, as noted in your fic, Victorians are stuck up, New South Wales residents are even more stuck up, ACTs don't exist (that really annoys me how ACT isn't recognised), Queenslanders are all party animals, SAs we never mention for some reason, NTs are all Aboriginal and WA is the only normal state. Then there's the rivalries between regions, then towns, then schools... I reckon it's really unfair how people label others though. Like the Australian, Chinese, American and British racism thing. Loved this story, you portrayed the characters really well. Keep writing!
PS. You should make a fic about WA's threats to become their own country. Poor Oz!
| Guest chapter 1 . 6/26
Ahahahahaha! This was amazing, the stereotypes were on point. I'm from Victoria, and when I go to other states, I have met people who are genuinely surprised that I'm not a stuck-up bitch. Luckily, I hold no hate for the other states and territories, just a small feeling of rivalry with NSW. Probably because Sydney is so pretty and I've gone to Melbourne about 200 times so I get bored.
ACT is a pretty chill place, but because it's much newer than the others, it almost looks dystopian from how clean and new it looks. The streets are annoying there but Questacon (Science building (Kinda like Scienceworks)) is pretty fun. Hm.
| Guest chapter 1 . 2/11
I'm from South Australia (not born, but lived here almost my whole life so yeah) and I almost immediately understood why she was praying XD. We do have a lot of churches. I'm surprised you didn't mention the malls balls in Rundle Mall in Adelaide. For those who don't know, it's two gigantic balls stacked on top of each other that have reflections. No, not those kind of balls, but a lot of people have dirty minds when they hear this XD XD.
| Sapphire363 chapter 1 . 6/12/2016
Noo! They have to fight over the BRAND of beer now! My dad (Queenslander) and grandad (from Victoria) are always arguing over this! Grandad wants Victoria Bitter, or VB, dad says that VB stands for "Vomit Bombs". Then dad starts talking about xxxx, then grandad says it's called four x because Queenslanders can't spell "beer", then dad says it's because we export it to Victoria, and Victorians can't read "beer"!
Great story though, really funny!
| AnneMary chapter 1 . 9/28/2015
Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious - I loved it! Even if you could sort of tell it was written by a Victorian. But not much. It was great.
My only problem is right at the end, where WA said "if you'd let me (become a separate country)" to Australia. Actually, it's not Australia that's the problem. WA actually had a successful referendum yonks ago, like you said, and although the rest of Australia mightn't like it, I think we'd let WA go free if they really wanted (although, as a South Australian, I'd want to go with them). Actually, what stopped WA becoming independent back in the 30s was that Federation was an act of British parliament, and therefore only another act of British parliament can change any aspect thereof... and British parliament refused to let the bill for Western Australian independence pass. (Oh, the joys of having a sibling doing Year 12 Politics and Legal Studies...)
Oh, also, both Burra and Coober Pedy, both in South Australia, have (or had at one time) people living in dugouts, so... yeah. I don't know if they do that in the NT, too, but Burra once had 1/4 of its population living in a riverbank, and today most of Coober Pedy is underground, including a couple of churches slash popular tourist sites. Maybe that news segment was talking about Coober Pedy?
| insane is normal chapter 1 . 8/5/2014
I am aussie toooo and from Melbourne! Some of the points you made there were so true.
Vic so is the capital of food, fashion and sporting capital! I mean footy came from Vic.
Although I don't mind most of NSW (mostly cause half my family lives there) only Sydney.
Poor poor Canberra :( I have a fem australia charters that is called Canberra cause its the capital and everyone is constantly calling her Sydney cases I am guessing that what most people would think is the capital of oz cause it's the most 'touristy'
Any way I am done! Good job. The states should meet the countries! That would be good :D
| GeekyGenius chapter 1 . 6/16/2014
You forgot state of origin between QLD and NSW. They are massive rivals over that and other stuff but also can be really good mates and generally help each other out.
| SurroundedByMyOwnMisanthropy chapter 1 . 12/14/2013
As a Canberran I found the nobody even knows The ACT exists section hilariously true and accurate, although people here have a habit of mocking the Queensland and New South Wales hatred of each other, but we also pick on NSW quite a bit for being full of bogans, especially Queanbeyan. Slightly disappointed there were no 'a dingo ate my baby!' jokes for the western states
| FlyingFyreFlye chapter 1 . 9/23/2012
Haha, this is brilliant, I love it! Although, I am from SA and I'd just like to say (no offence) that we dislike Victorian's almost as much as NSW does, although I think that's mostly due to football rivalry...
Also, the reason South Aussies have 'posher' accents (I read someone say it in a review) is because we're the only state that wasn't settled by convicts. I guess all those posh British governors and whatnots kind of left their imprint...
But really, I think you've pretty much got the whole state-rivalry bang on and I greatly enjoyed reading this :D
| MellyMonster chapter 1 . 8/13/2011
LOL! this is great, and so hilarious because it's true.
I'm also from Vic and yes, i do have an irrational dislike towards Sydney(well NSW in general).
And everything just makes sense, main point, this is awesome
| DriftingXDreamer chapter 1 . 7/21/2011
This... Is... HILARIOUS!
I'm from Tassie and I cracked up so bad when she got bagged out with the whole incest joke, priceless XD
| Desdemona chapter 1 . 7/19/2011
...well this is insulting. I'm a west aussie with queenslander accentenglish accent s no-one undestand what I say.
| Emii chapter 1 . 6/20/2011
... You are my hero for writing this. owo
| Random Aussie chapter 1 . 6/20/2011
That was probably the best fanfic I'd ever read. You depicted the stereotypes so well. I'm a sandgroper, and the only thing wrong was that Inbred Tassie jokes are basically unheard of in WA. Just thought I'd point that out... Anyway, I loved it!
| eryv chapter 1 . 5/11/2011
YAY! A story about Australia :3
Although I'd never heard about the NSW/VIC rivalry before... I don't feel anything bad towards you guys :/
And would imagine SA being stuck up- have you HEARD their accents? They're british or something D:
But I really loved this :3 Australia needs more attention.
