It's the way you word his dialogue that has me intrigued. You reveal an intellect that is both enjoyable to read and gives the mind something to process and consider.
I've never doubted that Snape was an intelligent man.
It's what damns him in my eyes: no man that intelligent could ignore all of the data he had on Harry and conclude anything short of an abused, neglected child. There were zero data that pointed to a pampered prince. Then there was the simple fact of his not growing up with his father, so snivellus mindlessly visiting the sins of the father upon Harry was maliciously infantile and willfully ignorant. Not to mention completely unprofessional and uncontrolled - both qualities he purportedly prides himself on. Where is his intelligence in all of this? Why, it is purposefully, hatefully, knowingly focused on the degradation of a child. He is, in short, still a death eater in his heart of hearts.

Setting aside those foundations for my discontent is made all the more difficult when the only real piece of evidence you have removed from Snapes' perception is Harry's clothing, which he raided from the lost and found... for the whole year? Some mismatched but acceptable quality clothing could not hide the way Harry flinched at loud noises, the way those robes hung off of a gaunt frame and a face taut against his skull due to malnourishment. The dozens of other clues that an abused child could see another abuse victim if he were not willfully ignoring them in favor of his own hatred-based perceptions.

In any case, the mind rapes are what elevate snivellus above hem-hem or any other HP villain who specifically targets Harry. Not only are they a vicious, malicious assault, not only do they provide Tom even easier access to Harry's battered mind, but worst of all, snivellus saw Harry's miserable childhood in detail and chose to ignore it in favor of his own twisted mind's pre-established narrative. He chose to believe the absolute worst fabrications based on hearsay (Quirrel, the Chamber, etc...) and conflicting evidence and ignored the absolute worst reality when it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I'm not saying I cannot see Snape elevated to human status, but your fic thus far has not dealt with one iota of his previous behavior. Harry trusting Snape at this point is a bit too much of a stretch and essentially asks him to completely absolve snivellus with nothing more than a few meals, some clothing, new glasses, and vague hope. Snape has not made any overture of remorse for his willful maliciousness and that leads me to wonder how easily this character could fall into the worst-case assumptions - and their attendant vitriolic responses. Without genuine remorse (which he understands as he expects it from the dursleys as part of his curse) how can we believe that Snape has indeed changed from snivellus?

180-degree turn... GO! I get where you're trying to go with this, I just wish you'd given us any reason whatsoever to believe Severus Snape was a human being before seven chapters into the story. Psychotic break notwithstanding, the backstory these two have doesn't allow for Snape not to have seen Harry's life when he was mind-raping him. It also doesn't excuse what Snape did to him for five years, as though he was somehow justified in abusing and belittling any student, let alone Lily's son.
That he's not going to make even the slightest twinge of apology for that reeks of manipulation and continued delusion. Harry simply has no reason not to believe that Snape will revert to snivellus without the slightest warning or provocation. Knowing that the nastiest person Harry knows was a childhood friend of his mother actually makes it worse - Harry now knows that even despite being friends with his mother, he still treated her son like his most reviled enemy...

So... Snape is batshitecrazy? Multi-personality disorder? An (apparently new) personality, one with a soul and conscience, that has never uttered a word to Snape in Harry's company or to his benefit before this day? Huh.

erm... misjudgements? misconceptions? snivellus has saved Harry's life once that we know of, and that was only due to a life debt owed to his father.
Name ONE other thing that death eater has done to Harry that did not involve hatred, vitriol, or at the very least, disdainful insults? You can't, it didn't happen.
Snape HATES Harry Potter, Openly, Intensely, Gleefully! Whatever "mis" there is, it is not in judgement or conception, those are obvious and factual. Whatever mental breakdown Snape's having, it doesn't change history.
