This actually makes a certain amount of sense. The operative phrase being "any competent Potions Professor" explaining why things keep going wrong despite the pairing.

Interesting and logical, though I think I prefer the solution offered in Calculations by Fringeperson hire extra teachers so a) the classes can be kept entirely house separate and b) the core subject professors won't be totally overworked.

Yes, Snape can grade in peace when the Hufflepuffs and Ravens are on board, which helps him rest up for the Gryffindor/Slytherin classes.
Although if you look at the actual numbers, the class load for Potions, a lab class, is um...overwhelming.
