That was lovely! I’ve a soft spot for Loki and Sigyn, and they are such a fascinating couple. I love how you captured their personalities and their courtship in this adorable one-shot. I like how short and airy the piece is; something like this can easily be turned into a full-length romance, but I think the brevity and lightness of this story did a better job of capturing the nature of their relationship than some long, drawn-out, highly detailed story would have. The fact that the story was well written was a delightful bonus.
I loved how you portrayed the characters. We know so little about Sigyn from Norse mythology, but I enjoyed how you created her, and from what we do know of her in the myths, your Sigyn seemed believable. You show her as gentle and humbly honest, like in her comment about being a minor goddess, but she’s also patiently persistent and bold, which are qualities that seem essential for someone who married Loki and sticks with him as long as she does. She’s clearly charmed by him (aren’t we all?), but I get the sense that she’s not going to let him walk all over her. I like how the bracelet she makes represents her in a way; simple, practical, but special and beautiful in its simplicity, especially compared to the fanciful, exotic nature of the bracelet she receives and the man from whom she receives it.
And fantastic job with Loki. As I said, this story is short and simple, but that makes it all the more impressive how clear and brilliant your portrayal of Loki is. I loved the descriptions of him, down to the mention of his scarred lips, and I like that you include so many of the senses in your description of him: the fiery heat of his body and lips, that he smells like mead and smoke, his restless energy and constant motion. There’s actually very little visual description of him (which is curious, since that’s usually what most people write most) but I actually like that we don’t get a clear look at him, but instead, you describe him mainly through the other senses. It makes him seem more elusive, which fits perfectly in this story. I love that he claims the bracelet is a moonbeam, as well as the note that with Loki, it could very well be true. I also liked the mention of his eyes being so innocent-looking; that’s believable from the myths with the way Loki wins over Odin and convinces him to become his blood-brother. I like that even Loki’s appearance is deceiving here – so appropriate that the least guileless of the gods looks the most innocent. It was in character how blunt and almost childish he is, like how he tells Sigyn that she’d better like his gift and that he’ll take it back if she doesn’t want it. Also in character was how arbitrary and impulsive he is, how at the end he’s just like “Oh, OK, I guess we can get married after all.” With anyone other than Loki, such a sudden acceptance of the proposal wouldn’t have worked, but with Loki it was perfect. I also love the active and descriptive verbs you use for him and how he moves, the way he drapes himself over Sigyn and his hand snaking down. All in all, I wouldn’t have wanted Loki to be any different than how you show him here.
Really fine work. It was sweet, though abrupt and odd enough for the courtship of these two. It’s not overly sappy or sentimental, and Loki’s elusiveness and abruptness in his answer to Sigyn’s proposal give the story enough of a bitter-sweetness to herald the ultimate outcome of their marriage. I enjoyed reading this a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Keep on writing!

| Cait-S chapter 1 . 7/28/2012
that was ... soo sweet. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy _
but also very sad: here they are both still innocent (well as innocent as Loki can possibly be) and so in love, it makes me really sad to think about all the harsh things they have to face later ...
you've got a new fan :D
