I have to admit I was just a tiny bit worried in Chapter 4, but this was absolutely the best ending ever and you explained Anna's feelings so well. Bravo!

WOW! That was a fabulous, highly charged finale and it was AMAZING!
A perfect, liberated end! I adore it!
I don't know what else to say except...YAY for Anna/Bates happy endings! :D
They make me...:D just like that!
So, thank you! XX

That was great! And so nicely done. Hell yes.

oh this really gets better and better but also harder and harder - what a cliffhanger! This is a really good mix of angst (though just at the right level - no melodrama here) and wonderfully classy steamy stuff. Really, we're spoiled here. I was surprised when they moved on to the full monty and yet it made complete sense - this is what I'm really enjoying here - you surprise us and yet it's no surprise, in the sense that it always makes sense and keeps the characters in, well, character.
I'm very anxious about Anna's reaction as I do feel for her and I understand how hard it must be for her to trust him again, as it were - although I've really enjoyed the reversal and Anna making assumptions about what John might expect of her as a wife. It feels very true to life generally. And I felt for him so much when she let out she was thinking he was just in it for the sex - I'd be pretty insulted in his stead! So wonderful of him to remain calm and rational about him. He's lovely. Most of the time. :-)
I LOVED this bit:
When she came back she was a different woman, briskly suggesting they go get supper and not quite meeting his eyes. His chest tightened and he wondered if this is what she had felt like, back then, when he had been such a damnable fool as to push her away. If it was even a little like that he couldn't bear to ask her forgiveness because the pain he felt right then seemed like the type that would never go away, lurking forever in his heart like the shrapnel that bit at his leg.
Perfect, touching summing up of this dynamic. Can't wait to see how they move past it. And it was true to life, again, that after that first experience she would react in that way - she must have felt so exposed.

This fic is so good I'm torn between wanting the traditional marriage, kids, white picket fence happy ending and wanting Anna and Bates to somehow stay friends with benefits - because that's what they are right now, in essence - forever because you have made that work so well. The amount of freedom she has is awesome, and I love how she decides what she wants in the relationship.
On the other hand, marriage is nice and babies are pretty cute. And hey, she might want that as well, one day!
Anyway - this fic is already my favourite. :)

HOT! HOT! HOT! I am still so in love with this story. I love that Anna was willing to give herself to a man without wanting any sort of commitment. She is truly a liberated woman! Such a great chapter. I can't wait to hear what her reponse will be :)
| marcella chapter 4 . 7/5/2011
That was absolutely amazing! I would actually say thatwas one of the best Anna and Bates stories I've ever read on fanfiction! Thank you, and I just want to add that I will probably kill myself if another chapter isn't added!

My oh my, that was NOT where I expected this to be going! Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but . . . Wow. That was hot and spicy and all sorts of fabulous. It did kinda seem to push that T boundary a bit, but perhaps I am a bit more old-fashioned. Either way, well done.
And Anna's illness? Is this headed where I think it may be headed? (please yes please because that would be awesome as long as it brought them closer together and not farther apart!)
Bravo, brilliant, your usual genius. I will now tackle the rest of my day with images of lounging in bed with Bates all nestled in my head. (poor me :)

Like Anna, I've been left quite insensible by that chapter!
I'm in awe at the beauty of it! Anna is truly a liberated woman and I applaud her!
Absolutely marvellous my dear! Marvellous, marvellous, marvellous.

I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but I'll say it again: I love this story. I love that Anna is so independent and strong and that she is making her own way in the world and excelling at it. I loved the vision of anna undressing and bates trying to keep himself from envisioning it. I loved the kiss at the end...about time. Looking forward to the final chapter!
| augrah chapter 3 . 6/24/2011
Oh PBCD, you have done it again! I loved this chapter, the bakery and bonding over literature and the soft and not-so-soft affection, and the kiss! I can't wait for the final chapter! *hugs*
| frostyblossom chapter 3 . 6/24/2011
hmm I don't know why, I'm not usually very into Anna/Bates, but the scenario you've set up here, with Bates proving himself and then moving into a slow friendship, has me really interested! I like that Anna isn't willing to just forgive and forget, and that they are building a new relationship on a solid foundation of friendship and trust.
| PrettyDarkEyes chapter 3 . 6/23/2011
Squeeeeeeee! I just loved a persevering Mr. Bates chipping away at Anna's determination to not be involved. Loved that kiss! Can't wait for more!
| FirstDraft chapter 3 . 6/23/2011
Fabulous fabulous fabulous. How lovely to see them reacquainting themselves with each other and those great glimpses of their time together at Downton. I liked Anna's continued caution and hesitation even as she's clearly falling for him all over again. Seems to me she found her own excuse to touch him often enough. :-)
Also loved John's enthusiasm about Anna's promotion - that's the best reminder to her that he's worth having another go. And that last scene with scarf - brilliant idea, wonderfully realised. I'm on tenterhooks as to Anna's reaction - how delicious and confusing for the poor girl. Can't wait for the conclusion!

So, so beautiful!
That was just simply wonderful, every single word of it!
I loved their sweet little exchanges, their Sunday nights together with John reading to her. I loved how she cared for him when he was poorly, and bless him for still visiting even though he should have been in bed!
I simply adored the ending with the tatty scarf Anna had once made! It was so touching and delightful!
And don't even get me started on the little scene where they went to a smart Harrogate hotel! (I'm thinking it might be "The Old Swan" where Agatha Christie once stayed, it's a nice little hotel in Harrogate, I could see them there! :D )
An absolute treat! I'm a very happy bunny!
