What was really clever about this was the way you had me believing, for about the first third of the fic, that he was walking to his execution - the chair reference was deliberately misleading, I'm sure. Then - round about when Tseng was acting as nurse - the penny started to drop, and the end, though satisfactory, came as no surprise. I liked the scheme of associating a memory with each step.
I have to tell you, though, that I'm a bit uneasy at the way Tseng has effectively been reduced to a traditional 'wife'; having lost his identity along with the suit that defined him, his only role in life now is to care for the welfare of his lord and master. I just can't picture Tseng being willing to do this, honestly. I'd be pretty uneasy seeing a woman reduced to such a role, too, and I feel it indicates that Rufus doesn't really respect or understand him. They could have found another way. Was that deliberate on your part, to hint that this marriage is not going to be a bed of roses?
