Awesome. I love how you crafted this story to unfold between the real time and flashbacks. It made it a really interesting read and upped the stakes on the story when you knew a little bit of what happened and were freaking out to see how things got to that point. Excellent characterization as per your usual. Really liked it.

| Barranca chapter 1 . 7/27/2011
This story got quite scary in parts. I was afraid Sam wouldn't escape the ordeal without eventually being affected by the vampiric infection, but luckily you provided us with a happy ending, sorta. Dean was awesome like always :)
| Desertfyre chapter 1 . 6/17/2011
Awww, that was so sweet and sad at the same time. I'm glad that Dean was able to help Sam out of it, even if it's inadvertently.
| SupernaturallyEgocentric chapter 1 . 6/14/2011
Great story, really well done. Like it a lot.
| TinTin11 chapter 1 . 6/14/2011
Wow, I loved this! I don't think I've ever read a oneshot like yours before! The way you went back and forth was very clever and kept me interested the entire time! And I really liked the winning hand metaphor at the end! Great job! :o)
| palpravda chapter 1 . 6/11/2011
Loved it :) It will be nice to be able to read weekly fics like this for the next few weeks. Yeah the season finale was good. Not perfect, as there are always a couple of things one would like to see done a bit differently, or more extensively, but without nitpicking it was quite good. Unlike last year, it actually makes me look forward to next season :) I love that. In the meantime, though, I look forward to enjoying a few more of your very well written fics...
| Nana56 chapter 1 . 6/11/2011
Aw. Great fic! Did the vamps give Sam the axe to kill the boy? It's the only thing I can figure. That would have been hard, but he must have shut down the the kid being a kid part and just thought of him as a vamp to do it. He had to save the family. Poor guy! :(
Love these h/c fics no matter which way they are. And the end when Dean didn't take them to the diner that had Carla in the name was a great touch.
And of course it would take Dean succumbing to his injury a little to get Sam out of himself a little. No matter what else either one is going through, the fact that the other needs him will come first. :D
Nicely done, my friend. :)
| Ciya chapter 1 . 6/9/2011
Great vampire story - really liked how you bounced back and forth between Sam talking and Dean worrying.

All right! Bring on the summer stories! You always manage to make the summer hiatus more bearable. I promise I won't press for any kind of release schedule, but you do make the time more endurable.
This was excellent! I knew Kate had to be out there still, and there's no question that she's got it in for the Winchesters. And it wouldn't surprise me if she does particularly want to take Luthor's death out of Sam. I kinda get the feeling this isn't set in the sixth season, but it could fit into pretty much any of the previous five. Personally, it felt like it might be somewhere in the middle of the second season, especially with Dean allowing fury to take the wheel. I'm sure he'd do that on Sam's behalf in any of the seasons, but it seems like something Dean would do in season two. Not that it matters a whole lot, really.
There does seem to be an untapped well, if you will, of raw viciousness and malice in the vampires as they're depicted here. Yes, we've only seen the nests of Kate and Luthor, Lenore, and the vampire that turned Gordon, but it seems like vampires have it in them to be incredibly cruel and vile to anyone, if they feel like it. And the choice they gave Sam in this one sounded exactly right for this series.
Once again, though, the core theme of Sam and Dean being able to cope, deal, and fight through all the crap that comes at them as long as they're together is what makes this story so awesome. Sure, it's easy to see how badly Sam needs Dean, but we also know Dean can't maintain his compassion without Sam. It just doesn't work. It's a great pity that some of the ways Sam's brain shuts him down in self-defense and the ways Dean pulls him back out don't translate so well from print to screen. I'd love to see it on the show. Well, at least we have your stories to provide our imaginations with such images. Yet again, well done.
