Reviews for Concentric Wavelengths |
---|
Guest chapter 1 . 2/12 I just reviewed this story and I forgot to add that I really liked how you dealt with the time travel aspects of this story, writing a story backwards in time while maintaining consistency and sense was probably a very challenging task. Just wanted to put this out there because in my initial review I was a bit short on praise and in hindsight I should have shown my appreciation more. I also forgot to put out how bad I feel for Harry, I imagine his mind or conscious has more or less been completely erased by Grindelwald. Even if it hasn’t I don’t see there being any hope of him regaining control of his body. For that reason among others I am satisfied with this story as a one shot. I think that a sequel would morph into basically the second rise of Grindelwald which in my view would be unsatisfying for a story that starts of Harry-centric. Anyhow good story, good night and good bye. |
NamelessWanderer6 chapter 1 . 2/12 Good story, I thought the plot twist would be that the mysterious killer is Harry from the past’s future or something (time travel terminology is confusing to me). Your interpretation of Grindelwald is a lot darker than mine own but yours definitely works better for this story. Perhaps the most jarring aspect of this fic to me was not the gore and violence but rather Harry Potter. I had completely forgotten how impulsive, ignorant, thoughtless and weak canon Harry is. When you’ve read so many Slytherin or competent Harry fanfics, you forget that he basically stumbles through everything in canon with only luck and destiny. This isn’t to say that he is a complete idiot but rather that he never really grows into an independent agent acting on his own desires and plans. Instead he more or less remains a plaything in Dumbledore’s plans and does almost exactly as he pleases to the end. He also never goes out of his way to learn more about magic or the Wizarding world instead choosing to rely on Hermione and Ron. I think more than anything this story serves as a good reminder of why not to read the HP books again, I don’t think I’d be able to tolerate canon Harry at all during a reread, I would constantly be screaming at him to do or learn this or that, lol. Overall good story, I think the overall effect of the twist was lessened because predicting it necessitated knowledge we had no way of knowing (the differing fate of Grindelwald here vs canon), 8/10. |
