This is such a beautifully told story. And a beautiful story. I like how you wove Sherlock's past and present together to show his lifelong lonliness. Then you capture John's vulnerability in just a few lines:

John's uneven breathing.
John's frightened eyes.
John's trembling fingers, stained with blood, Sherlock's blood,"his"blood.
John's bruised, exposed heart.

You know, this is the first Sherlock story I've ever read - aside from Doyle's original stories of course - and I did it, because you are on my author alert list. I like it, especially how you manage to convey Sherlock's feeling of isolation and how it is part of his life all along.

You were inspired by the film, I suppose? There was a kind of emotional tension between them, so this would be a feasible explanation :)
