Reviews for A Harry Situation
Miriam1 chapter 15 . 4/7/2003
I've figured that it's only fair that I finally review this. I've read the whole thing, and I love what I've read.

I hope to be of more literary use next time, but sometimes it's good just to have a "KUDOS" thrown in your general direction.

Good job so far, and I'm very much looking forward to the next chapter.

lizzypadfoot chapter 15 . 4/4/2003
great chapter! wow ur pretty old then if ur 16th birthday was 1976! i wasnt even alive then! anywho this was a sweet chptr, and i hope for more soon! interesting animagus form for harry...why does everyone always seem to make him a cat? anyways id also just like to point out that pettigrew is a gray rat, it said so in book 1 on the train, "Ron pulled a fat GRAY rat out of his pocket", not like it matters i was just pointing that out. update soon!
Alina chapter 15 . 4/3/2003
You finally updated! This chapter was worth the wait though; it was so long! All of the references to other books and movies were pretty clever, and funny as well. Some of them had very amusing uses. Are you going to stop this story right at the end of the summer, or right before it? Will Harry get his checkup in the next chapter? I like how Sirius was so worried about Harry when he thought that Harry was missing, it really showed how much he cared about him. Harry and Sirius's "code names" were very interesting. It was sweet that Harry wanted to call Sirius "Dad". Also interesting was the fact that (in your story) Sirius suggested that Leo be Harry's name. When Sirius yelled that Mrs. Figg's cats had eaten Harry, did he think that Harry turned into a small bird or something? Is the fact that Harry's Animagus form is a cat very important to the plot? The trunk scene was very well-written. The ideas for the pillowcases were great. Will Harry ever figure out how to deflate them (in this story)? Well, once again, wonderful job on a wonderful chapter. Keep up the good work, I can't wait for the next one!
whoever I am at the moment chapter 15 . 4/3/2003
This is a very good and very interesting story. Please continue. Kudos about Harry’s animagus form, by the way. I was named after an abyssinian (sp?), and love cats.
michaela chapter 2 . 4/3/2003
So far the story is really good. There is one error though. I Britsh person would never call his realative ma'ma unless he wants his ears boxed. Ma'am or any verson of it means nicely put "a lady of the evening". Or it always has when I lived there. I just thought you would like to know. Anyway, the writing is good. :-)
Eris Queen of the Shadows chapter 15 . 4/3/2003
Lol, no need to thank me. Your story is just that good that I had to put it on my favorites. This chapter was good. Loved all of the fairy tale references. Little Red Riding Hood was my favorite story when I was a kid. Of course if I knew that the cloak that she wore was going to kill people. I never would have liked the story. Anywho, keep up the good job and I can't wait to read the next chapter.

P.S. Looks like that broomstick is about to smack Harry in the head at any moment. _
Chary chapter 15 . 4/3/2003
That was well worth the wait! I loved Harry's Animagus shape, it was such a cute image of him sitting on the work surface, all big confused green eyes staring out from a cat's face. The line, "Harry wasn’t sure he liked the idea of Mrs. Figg noticing the colour of his underside. But he kept that to himself." really made me smile. So can he only transform when he's startled and has he really learnt so quickly, or is something else going on? I liked “White Bumblebee Exterminators” and also the differences between what Hermione and her mother saw when Dumbledore set up the wards was very clever - and no, we don't have root beer floats here (or even drink root beer I don't think), I do vaguely recall seeing coke floats on a Pizza Hut menu a few years back though; don't know if they still do them. I was glad you told us what Dumbledore's nickname was, I was curious too "Honey Bee" Lol!

The attic in-jokes were neat, especially Puss in Boots and the lamp. I really liked the story behind the Hunting Cloak and the Sleepy Spindle too: ‘Blimey, didn’t anybody ever ASK back then?’:)

Harry asking Sirius if he could use "Dad" as a code name was very touching - I really hope we get to see interaction like yours between the two of them in book five - Harry needs it. It was sad when Harry read the inscription on the Christmas cards, I think finding things like this would be easier for him if he just had more memories of his parents to look back on. His thoughts when he saw the picture of himself were nice an amusing though: "Harry squinted and studied his five month old self and decided his Mum must have loved him very much. There was no other reason she would have defended such a hideous looking creature. Were all babies that ugly or had he been especially deformed?" Aww poor Harry, a little ugly duckling!

The self-plumping cushions were fun and I liked the idea of him sending Ginny his mum's cloak, but is the trunk empty now? Of course, that spyglass looked like it might come in handy - almost as useful as his dad's invisibility cloak! There was a slightly confusing bit in the "Thinking Inside the Box" segment. It started out saying the Dursleys were having a party that looked like it was going to go on all night and Dudley was staying at a friends so his sleep wasn't disturbed, but then when Harry went down to the bathroom to look at the cloak in the mirror, he was being careful to avoid Dudley and also a bit later again, Petunia called him down to dinner. I could have missed something though, my computer screen's acting up so it's not easy to read on it at the moment.

I loved all the scenes in the Burrow - Ron's chess face - heh! Arthur and Charlie's dishcloth fight and Ron figuring out why Charlie was going with Hermione and Ginny - I love it when he's the one working things out. Well, as always I'm looking forward to more, although I can understand if you can't keep the rest of the chapter's at this lovely length!
VenusDeOmnipotent chapter 15 . 4/3/2003
yeah! rah rah rah! go tom..go tom...er..foma..

woohoo! great chapter. great LONG chapter. harry and ginny must get together. MUST. pout. okay maybe im being a litle too demanding here. i love your story! its great that you finally began updating sort of regularly...before it was a century between each chapter.

i hope you didn't wave your chopsticks at the magician! that was so cool, you got chinese food..teeheehee. of course, update soon and PEACE out. i don't usually say that i just like saying the word peace. peace
katrina chapter 15 . 4/3/2003
I thought Harry's running commentary while reading Ginny's letter was hilarious. You know how couples often have their own nicknames for each other? Well, since I hate Virginia's name beging reffered to as Ginny, I think Harry should end up calling her Verge (had a friend we called that, and it doesn't sound as alcoholic as Jinny).
Von chapter 15 . 4/3/2003
What thing we've all been waiting for? OH, the animagus thing?

Thats so cute, how every time he gets startled he changes. What if his aunt or uncle or cousin startles him? Eww.. (cringes) that could be nasty. After all, killing a cat isn't the same thing as killing a human.

He sent Hedwig away? And hermione and her mum are off... Harry, Harry.. you're asking for trouble! No way to communicate to another wizard, no one to ring...

Is Harry gonna black out every time his hair suddenly streaks white? If he blamed hedwig for his blacking out last time... or did he actually get hit, with some kinda curse or something? I have a cousin who gets migranes that litterally jump her. One second she's fine, next, shes groaning and moaning and clutching her head like its gonna explode. How fast do these streaks appear. It sounds like it wasn't there untill after he blacked out... so magically turning white..? Not enough to register, its not a spell. Just background 'aura'.

Hmm.

A pity about Daniel not showing up, but I'm estatic to think the ideas have encouraged you to do another summer with him in it!

I was both dissapointed, confused, enlightened and agreeable to Harry becomming a cat.

First of all, a cat. A mangy, proffessormcgonagallisacat cat. I guess all those fics of Harry becoming various magical or at least, impressive animals have rotted away my brain. Ah well.

I was confused in that an empty mind made him a cat. did it have soemthing to do with the fact that he was surrounded by cats? After all, something like that can have an effect on your subconcious, right? Conciously you're thinking nothing, but your subconcious is chanting 'cats cats cats cats'...

And was it the book that changed him..? Or did he do it himself? Just emptying your mind doesn't seem enough to change..

Plus, it was referred to a couple of times as 'transfiguring'. Without a wand.. Ehrm.. is this his animagus form or not? Sirius doesn't 'tranfigure' himself.. I'd always thought of the two things being seperate.. All wizards can transifgure, to varying degrees of ability. But only a few are animagus. Victor did a bad job of transfiguring himself into a shark... Not animagusing.. The lines: “Not for transfiguring yourself,” and “You act as if you committed a crime instead of pulling off a very difficult feat of transfiguration..." Were what mostly stuffed me around...

Was it the shock that made no-one notice Harry's fear-reaction? Whats going on?

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” Harry said. He covered his head with his arms. “I didn’t mean to do it! I’m not even sure how I did it! One minute I was looking at animal pictures, the next…” his voice trailed off.

“That was NOT FUNNY!” Sirius roared a few seconds before he burst out laughing.

Harry peered up at him uncertainly. He lowered his arms when it became clear that Sirius wasn’t going to hit him."

Poor Harry, to even have to worry about his godfather hitting him. Maybe I've a memory like a sieve (which i do have, by the way, however its spelt) But his uncle hasn't yet hit him... right? or is there something you're not telling us?

I like nicely. he/she is funny.

Pretty green eyes. Hah. I can just see Sirius teasing him about that for a long while. Plus the twins picking up on it. "Oh Harry.." (Eye flutter, eye flutter) "What pretty green eyes you have.. Thay make me all... dizzy.." (Cue dramatic sigh and collapsing into the arms of a passer-by.)

Ahem, anyway, back on track. Then I was confused as to his colouring, then enlightened as to the reason why. Although, personally, I find red cats UG-LY.

Blerk. Still, at least he now has his adoptive family's colouring...

When you described the attributes of that perticular breed of cat, I was agreeable as to the personality traits. But.. Hm. I guess I just can't see Harry as a cute-n-cuddly cat. (Smacks herself on the side of the head) Thats not entirely true. I can se someone cuddling him and cooing baby noises at him, (Ha! Draco malfoy! MWAHAHAHAHAA) But I also see him tearing someone's jugular out. Little hard to do with suck ickle claws. I can see Big Bad Sirius chasing poor ickle harry right round the park and up a tree. Where he'd probably unchange, and be stuck up there all night. After all, getting on like cats and dogs...?

Why does sirius need another codename? Why does harry need one?

Harry at the weasleys. That might not be such a blessing. They're all having huge arguments, and Harry cares about them all a lot. Mix in their naturally volitile (spl?) tempers, and you've gots lots of stress, and probably a few unintended snappings and arguments. Even if everyone restrained themselves around harry, he'd still pick up on the low-level constantly-throbbing background tension. He, as has already been set down with all the aromatherapy buisness, is quite observant. Just living in the same house as the wealseys could stress him out even more. Ah well, that what I think, anyway.

LOVED the inclusion of various fairy tales brikabrack. Very cute.

GROANED ALOUD why Harry immediately thought of giving him mum's cloak to Ginny. WHAT THE?

Courtship or what? It's his mums... Doesn't he want to keep it? it's match his eyes (And frankly, It wouldn't go with Ginny's hair... Like red wouldn't go with him very well...) Is the cloak a female-design or something? I suppose if both of them wore their respective cloaks, it'd look very festive. Green eyes, red cloak. Red hair, green cloak. Break out the mistletoe. Good grief.

Won't ginny know it was from harry as soon as she sees his matching cloak?

Warning: Do not use this to peek into the boys dorm? Why not? Is there some kind of nasty supprise? heh heh. I can see someone trying to see into the girls dorm and getting a black eye as the glass responds.

I hope Ron doesn't lash out at Harry. Especially if Ginny or hermione aren't there to buffer it.

Anyway, thanks for the huge chapter, the lack of cliffhanger and I'm greatly lookingforward to the next! CHEERS!
Buttamellow chapter 15 . 4/2/2003
I think that Punkin is the perfect nickname for Ginny, although I am a bit biased myself. My friend and I are still reading the story. Oh my gosh, I ran through the hallway to the computer lab as soon as I saw that the story had been updated. She had been constantly asking me if it had been updated and then I saw it today. So, as I stated I sprinted through the dorm to the computer lab to tell her that it had been updated. She started squealing and jumping up and down. We were so excited that I ran back to my room and got back on my laptop and started reading, telling her to come and talk about it with me as soon as she got done. She came by just a few and she was so excited. She said she can't wait until the next chapter. I have to absolutely agree. 100%. If I haven't put this on my favorite stories list yet then it is definitley on it after today...although I swear I've already put it on there. I swear I'll have an update for my story by Friday. I've had to go to Alabama, take my lifeguarding certification, do speeches, have tests, etc etc. You know, all in the life of the college student. Love the chapters name.

Now for comments on the story itself: (LOL)

I loved the White Bumblebee Exterminators. That was so ingenious and cute at the same time. I've been doing research for my speech on Harry Potter and I had come across that so I was rooting you on. I also was extremely touched by the scene between Sirius and Harry. I loved the fact that Harry is calling him Dad. And Nicely...I really want one. It has such a sense of humor. At first I was questioning the idea of Harry being a cat, and then I read the description and I thought it was brilliant. I absolutely adore cats. Also...of course this is just a me thing...but I really love the fact that it seems that Harry is starting to fall for Ginny. Yipee! Let's see...oh yes the fairy tale allusions made me smile. I loved all of them and I was so excited to know that they were all in the Weasley's attic. I wish I had their attic.

Well now that I've written a whole lot of stuff and I've probably bored you I should probably end.

I asked my dad why he called me Punkin when I was little awhile ago and there were several reasons. When I was little I had extremely curly almost auburn hair (I have brown hair) and my favorite stuffed animal was a pumpkin that was a puppet. Your hand went into the bottom of the puppet and my dad used to make the pumpkin speak to me, it made me giggle. There's also the fact that I'm from a Southern family but...I've talked long enough and I know you didn't want to know that. But incase you want to use any of that you are welcome to it.

Well, I had only 2 hours of sleep last night so I'm about to head off to bed. Again, awesome story and I can't wait til the next chapter!

Andrea13 chapter 15 . 4/2/2003
Yay, another great chapter! The Attic of Fairy Tales was really hysterical. (Nice to see someone using the proper silver slippers instead of ruby for a change!) I'm SO glad Harry finally looked into the trunk! I've been looking forward to that for chapters and chapters now. :) Thinking of Harry sending out 15 year old Christmas cards his parents were never able to send is extremely depressing somehow, but very touching at the same time. I wonder what the recipients would think...

Some wonderful quotes that just made my crack up:

- "She took Arthur’s offered arm and strolled into the next room with him, unaware of the fact that Charlie was now being attacked by her damp dish rag."

- "Why can’t Dumbledore send somebody sane with them? Harry closed his eyes and went through the list of sane, adult wizards that he knew. Somehow mentioning Sirius and sane in one breath didn’t seem appropriate. Mr. Weasley was mostly sane, except for his fascination with Muggles. Bill went around sticking his nose into cursed tombs. Remus Lupin was sane… no, wait, he liked to hang around Sirius. Scratch him off, too. Having eliminated all the adult wizards he knew well, Harry went back to his letter."

- "Mum thinks you’re the greatest (non-redheaded) wizard in living memory." (Especially the bit about Dumbledore being red-headed originally. *g*)

- "Snape (who was obviously created in a mad scientist’s lab out of spare parts and axel grease instead of being born to actual human parents.)"

I can't wait for more! :)
