Finally finished this gem! I always wished someone would tell the story of Kate & Alexis. With each experiencing the loss of their mother—in obviously different but equally painful ways; it was begging to be told.

Thank you for writing this wonderful tale and doing it magnificently well.

I love how you are building-what feels like-the backstory for Kate-since we knew her older, future self from canon. But in this AU, it is in fact, her story. It's like peeling the "Kate Beckett onion" in reverse; as we observe her relationships wiith everyone in her orbit, like Lanie and her Dad.

It's interesting to note that the constants in her life seem to be the Castle's.

Brilliant storytelling.

The relationship is getting off to a smoother start. Maybe because Alexis is the driver behind it in this case. And there’s no resistance from Kate at this point. There’s no reason for it since Castle isn’t pushing himself onto her turf nor into her life.

Looking forward to watching how their story unfolds.

Excellent job of the picture you are giving us of Kate's younger self; her relationship with Madison and Espo; and her interactions with coworkers. Really good writing!

And this little Alexis! What's not to love about her. And her connection with Kate is just so special.

Im sad there is only 9 chapters left, i think this is my 3rd read again and im so freaking happy i found this thing all those years ago. I love each read through, its like my real life pulls me back to it every few years, and whats nice is due to the time length i have to read to remember parts but also find myself recalling thing that are upcoming too. Ill be sad to get to chapter 41 but look forward to the day some time in a few months or a few years that calls me back to Of Finding Innocence. Because that day will be a very good day. Thanks Emma for giving me, us, this gift.

Just finished reading this a second time. Also just watched Slice of Death in Season 3. Did you get the idea for this from Castle's recollection of seeing Gordon Burns' daughter when he visited a book signing? Maybe I missed that in an A/N.
