|Reviews for Despoilment|
| Salysha chapter 1 . 8/1/2011
"Despoilment." The title beckons instant curiosity.
I liked your narrative enormously. It was absorbing, almost compulsive; this might have been the most compelling narrative I have read. I found I didn’t really even care about what had happened. The hateful characterization received just the same indifference; I wanted to keep reading for the riveting narrative voice alone.
I did form an impression of the events, and as I read this again more carefully, I spotted the tell-tale line which confirmed the impression ("her own boyfriend ... would just throw himself at me like that"). The gratuitous, perfunctory use of the f-bomb did not add literary value, though; in the end, it took the emotive edge off.
