|Reviews for Stalking Zuko|
| donnacrunch chapter 8 . 8/9/2011
I literally was holding my sides trying to suppress laughter (because I am suppossed to be in bed...). The whole chapter was effing hilarious. My favorite part was when Katara ponders the various fishing trips: "I'm sure Ozai would have found a way to make fishing evil and full of pain. He probably would have killed a few people on the way, drowned a few baby rabbiroos for shiggles and then poisoned all the fish and called the trip a success." Also, I don't know if it was intended to be taken the way I took it, but it struck me as pretty dang cute when Katara referred to Zuko as "my Subject." Considering that this followed "my brother," it seemed like she felt somewhat affectionate towards him. But, you know, that could just be my inner Hardcore Zutarian reading too far into it. :D
Once again, stupendous job. I'm Super Excited for the next chapter. *storylove!*

Two chapters in less than 24 hours? You're spoiling us!
So the fic will end after Southern Raiders, eh? I don't suppose it will end with Zuko finding her journal... but I really hope he does someday in the next fic. Just so Katara will be forced to explain herself when Zuko says, at the very least, "So I was right; you did take my fire flakes! And then lied right to my face about it!" She deserves to squirm a little, don'cha think?

I thought it was spelled Sake? At least that's what I heard.

Hay great chapter! I think you should go to Sozin's comet! Also do you have an idea bunny of a short in Zuko's P.O.V.? I think that could be fun! But also challenging. :]

Once again, you've raised several valid points in this chapter. I think you're spot-on with your characterizations of Katara, Zuko, Aang and The Duke, and how they'd fall on each side of the kids-learning-to-fight debate. Yes, Zuko has a soft spot for kids and can be a patient teacher, as evidenced by "Zuko Alone". And yes, Aang's antics while training under Pakku and under Toph made it clear that he is definitely not the most attentive student when it comes to bending other elements... which actually makes it pretty puzzling that he was able to master them so quickly. According to Roku, he took twelve years to train in the other three elements, and he didn't say anything to indicate he was considered a slow learner. So if it typically takes Avatars several years to master their non-native elements, how'd Aang learn them all in less than a year? I suppose he's just a prodigy at bending, period... That, and he knew he had a Very Serious Deadline to learn them all in.

I really enjoyed this chapter. I think that Zuko's apparent softness towards children really brings out in him whatever he has inherited from his mother. And you're right - teo,, haru, and the duke felt like extras at that point in the show, even though we all 'knew' them. They didn't fit in with the episode plots, so they became background decorations.
also, I think it was a good call for Katara to be sensitive about his scar. She easily could have been nasty about it in her journal, but she wasn't. Kudos for that.
this is just my opinion, and naturally, as the author, you should do as you feel apporopriate, but I think the southern raiders would be a good last chapter and then maybe have EIP as an epilogue. I can see many other shenanigans in that that the writers overlooked. But, again, that's just my opinion.
keep up the fantabulous work!

Yaaaay! Lol, I always think of reveiws as story love, so I wanted to give this hilerous/touching/amazing story some! Really enjoying it. And I'd definitly promote going all the way! Perhaps with a Zutara twist at the end...? :D
Because, let's face it...none of us were really satisfyied with the "glorious" finale (except for some epic bending, gotta love the pic bending scenes) Kaatang had been dead for seasons, silly Mike and Bryan! They were good friends, had a sweet relationship, and should've been left as such...
I'd have cried with joy if it had been Zutara. And Taang. I love me some Taang too.
But, alas, these are only whimsical fan opinions on a completed show. So, I must resort to fan fics! And yours has been most delightful and well written, I appluad you, and anoxusly await further updates.
Hope you consider bringing your story all the way to Sozin's Comet! And giving us some Zutara love too! Peace out, and once again, looking forward to reading on with the Boiling Rock. :)

I loovvee it. The right amount of sweet and salty to make my zutara world spin round. I really really really hope you take this all the way to the end (and by end, I don't mean the cannon ending BOO CANNON YEAH ZUTARA!)
*Cough cough* Anyways, back to the helpful review. I like how you describe Subject as a parfait and show each layer slowly. Also, I LOVE how you haven't used Subject's name even once in the story. Hopefully Katara will open up soon? *wiggled eyebrows hopefully*
Also, I need clarification on one thing. You said that Zuko and Mai were "intimate." Like intimate intimate or just 'intimate.' I always imagined that they would do something but not sure what your views are storywise.
Thanks! Keep writing!

To Sozin's Comet (or even a little further)!
I agree with you about the whole Zuko being fond of little kids things. Especially when they look up to him. I thought his relationship with Lee was so cute. I think this chapter was a really good reflection on Zuko Alone.
Underneath it all, I've always seen Zuko as a really sweet guy. He's angsty, that's for sure, but he's also shown that he has a deep forgiving and merciful side (forgiving Zhao and not attacking in the agni kai, trying to save Zhao's life at the North Pole, constantly forgiving/overlooking Ozai/Azula for their past offenses against him, not holding Katara's hostility toward him against her, etc). He strikes me as the kind of guy who's not against showing strong emotion, but he doesn't just hug everyone he knows either. He's hugged Iroh voluntarily several times in the series (sometimes, he initiated it) and was a TOTAL cuddle bug when he was with Mai (even though I don't like Maiko [nothing against Mai]), even when she was angry with him. Even in Zuko Alone, when they showed flashbacks of his life, he's always next to Ursa when he can be. See? He's a secret cuddle bug. lol
Zuko's the kind of guy who makes his affection and kindness obvious through subtle ways, if that makes any sense.

I don't know why, but I'd have to say my favorite part of this was The Duke whacking Haru in the balls. Almost spit out my coffee. But I really do love the way you ooze out little details of Zuko's life. He's not saying them directly (hey! let me tell ya 'bout ma life), but they come out naturally through conversation.
As for how long to continue this: I would say stop after Southern Raiders. The premise is that Katara is stalking Zuko because she doesn't trust him/thinks he'll do bad things/along that line. That ends when she no longer considers him a threat, and has fully forgiven him, referring to him as Zuko instead of Subject.
You can sill branch off and do a second fic where Katara's NOT stalking Zuko. And she could always refer to him as Subject when she's mad at him. I'd love for her to slip up and call him Subject to his face! But, yeah, I think the Ember Island Awkward should get its own story.

Nice chapter. I really like how you focused on The Duke a bit. He, Teo and Haru really do have a tendency to be overlooked.
About how far you should take the story: If you want to take it beyond "The Southern Raiders", you could simply have Katara start referring to him as Zuko in the journal and turn it from Katara's "Zuko stalking journal" to her "Zuko watching journal". Perhaps she continues watching Zuko to make up for all of the time she missed in getting to know him while she was too focused on hating him.

Sozin's comet sounds better in my opinion.
I always thought that if they could, Zuko would teach the Duke.
I'd think he'd wanna teach him especially after the Lee thing, as you mentioned.
Zuko Alone was a great episode to me too. One of my favorites because I always liked Zuko since I saw the good in him in like the episode "The Blue Spirit".
I think that Aang should've agreed though. His whole people were Air Nomads, thus they are defensive and less aggressive, and they still got blasted by people.
The Duke shouldn't feel that way, defenseless, and Zuko and Sokka agree. Katara just doesn't understand manly man stuff.
Katara always getting hit in the boob. Lol.
This was my favorite chapter in your story so far because it shows the softer side of Zuko towards younger kids who might get hurt like Zuko did so he does his best to teach em.
AWESOME, just AWESOME!
| Kalanrae chapter 6 . 8/8/2011
Great job! I also agree with your thinking for the relationships you described!

I love this story, it's amazazing. I really enjoy your sense of humor and I love how you mix that humor in with serious drama. I envy your talent, my friend. (I suck at humor :()
I know I'll find out soon enough, but I'm curious as to how far you're going with this. To the finale? Post-comet? Ach, like I said, I'll find out. As long as you continue, that is. Please, please continue :D
