Guest chapter 87 . 9/27/2018 A few thoughts: I really enjoyed the part with Lily and Snape. They had to have something incommon besides the fact they were friends when they were children. However, Slughorn's behaviour doesn't seem to resemble his behaviour in canon. He might show strong favouritism, but as far as lessons go, I can't imagine him not being able to follow the course syllabus properly. I don't think McGonagall would go as far as paying attention to what Sirius Black has to say. After hinting that 'she had left logic behind' he would be very sorry indeed. She might like Sirius, but she isn't the sort of teacher whom students can contradict. However, I love that she is supportive. I've never noticed much of this where Harry was concerned. I loved that Peter had a chance to shine here. You gave him a personality, other u authors don't even bother with him. I loved who didn't have wives who worried over them' part. If only he knew. And the part where he thinks he'd do anything for Dumbledore was brilliant. We often say people change as they grow older, but in Remus's case we can see that he retained many of his character traits he had as a child. I'm happy Remus isn't fond of Quidditch all that much, so I could sympathise with him when he wished to be in Sirius's shoes. For some reason the mention of him sitting on 'the fifth step of the boys' staircase' amused me. The truth is that it's in character for him to do that. He is always happy just watching. |
Guest chapter 86 . 9/26/2018 ooo...I bet 20 years from this moement Remus will be telling all this to Dora. Only I don't think he will be so,er, domineering. I know it's not the word I'm looking for here, it's just that it struck me that Meyrigg's husband is the sort of person who thinks he knows best and a woman shouldn't argue with him. I'm willing to bet he thinks she doesn't understand what's going on. 'I'm trusting you with the life of my baby'. Oh really, that's so nice of him. Though I don't think Remus would talk to Dora like that. There's something in the way Owyn speaks that I find repulsive. And Remus saw the pictures...If only I had met my intended at a young age, only to realize this was meant to happen all along. I adore this idea! I loved the banter in the hospital wing. But that scene with Meyrigg is scary, I feel as though I were watching a room full of ghosts. Your parallels are terrifying, to be honest. I only hope Remus will keep quiet this time. |
Guest chapter 85 . 9/26/2018 I had a suspicion he might pull such a trick, but thought this was too stupid even for him. Wow. And all this 'while he's on the field' business... a deliberate parallel no doubt. I wonder what he thought when his own wife most probably told him this after many years. I bet he remembered. I think it's beneficial for them all to have Sirius in detention. It becomes quiet, yes, but it also saves them from trouble. But now I'm seriously worried about Meyriggg. I don't like that parallel at all. Please, please don't let it happen.I do wonder, though, whether she's still planning to do whatever it is she's doing after the baby is born. In my personal and not so humble opinion she'd be irresponsible to go on missions instead of staying with her child. So Meyrigg's husband is a spy among the death eaters. Now that was unexpected. I hope he won't be mentally incapacitated like the Longbottoms. I liked that you showed that Dumbledore thinks his main goal is more important than someone's individual well-being. I can't stand this his character trait, but it's true. I also liked that Remus felt betrayed by McGonagall and Dumbledore. It's such a natural feeling and most writers often ignore it. It reminds me of Harry's feelings towards Dumbledore in OOTP and that part with Remus feeling betrayed was my favourite. Great. |
Guest chapter 84 . 9/26/2018 I love that you give us glimpses into the beginning of the war. I also liked Andromeda's letter. I only am not sure she'd use phrases like 'she's ever so pretty' because 'ever' seems to be used by children rather than well-educated adults. I'm not a native speaker, but that phrase sounded off to me. I also was a bit confused by Sirius's statement that Remus will have to do some research about metamorphmagi since it's Sirius's cousin we are talking about. The last part sent me into a fit of giggles. I bet you've seen or played that game yourself. Poor Remus, though. I'm surprised he feels no jealousy and just is glad his friends were the ones to cheer everyone up. |
Guest chapter 83 . 9/26/2018 I just loved that you showed how Sirius released his anger. I'm not so sure about Andromeda not knowing about metamorphmagi. She's a pure blood, so she must know about such magical talents. Well, at least I don't think she'd have to rush into St. Mungo's to check for hexes. I'm curious about Sirius's behaviour in this chapter. He is always ready to stay with Remus before and after transformations. But here he says James wouldn't want this. I'm wondering whether he really meant it or whether this was another of those times when Sirius is a better friend to Remus than to James. Sirius's behaviour where Remus is concerned baffles me even more after reading this chapter. |
Guest chapter 82 . 9/26/2018 I'll repeat those three magic words again: serves them right. Remus is very nasty and should feel like a hypocrite. I really enjoyed this chapter. However, I think the way you chose to move the plot along is strange. I can't imagine Remus just approaching Meyrigg and asking,' oh I heard you're pregnant and where are you off to at weekends?', but he did exactly this. Also, he talks to her as though she were his friend rather than his teacher. I was strongly reminded of a scene from Gone with the Wind where Rhett tells Scarlett Mrs. Wilkes is expecting again and how he came to that conclusion. But Rhett knows Mrs. Wilkes and, moreover, he is talking to his wife, so it seems appropriate. I read a somewhat similar scene where a teenage girl noticed her favourite teacher was expecting, but she didn't feel nearly as comfortable talking about it as Remus does. I could imagine him having such a conversation with Lily, but not to one of his teachers. And even though he has more self-confidence now than he did last year, I don't think he'd go so far as to interrogate his teachers. I have had a teacher at school who was very kind to me, but I would never have dreamed of asking her personal questions. And as kind as Meyrigg is, she wouldn't confide in a student. |
Guest chapter 81 . 9/26/2018 I'll have to check the definition of dramatic irony again because based on what I know I would nevr have guessed this was it. I really enjoyed the scene with Lily and Sirius. And Sirius's guesses about the birthing methods were funny. though I bet side along apparition would speed up the process considerably. I liked the bit about 'the bloke who's scared of his wife'. I know only one other story where Remus gets to meet Dora as a baby. And he even thinks the name is nice:). Even though I don't like that paring at all, it's sweet (mind you, I rarely use this adjective) he met her when she still was a child. I wonder how they avoided this in JK's universe. That bit about May day baby being unlucky was scary. Well, that's definitely ironic. Such details give me chills. I like Remus too much to even think about them. |
Guest chapter 80 . 9/26/2018 I'm glad you showed James and Sirius think alike. I also enjoyed that scene with Remus and Peter very much. Most people seem to think Peter didn't realize they were making fun of him, so I'm glad you chose a different approach. I have doubts about that bit with Andromeda and her ankles. She is a member of a prominent pure-blood family. It reminds me somewhat of the noble families in a 19th century novel. I don't think she'd mention such a thing as swollen ankles to her cousin, who is only 13. It's very likely she still thinks of him as a child she used to look after. And given the way you portrayed this family in your story, I think there are things the Blacks don't discuss with children, troubles of pregnancy is one of them. Andromeda is likely to talk about this to a woman, not a 13-year-old. |
Guest chapter 79 . 9/25/2018 I have to express my love for James Potter. I know it might not last long, but anyone who shouts at Sirius Black is my friend. He deserves this. I've just read a discussion about bromance and romance and which of them readers prefer. One person pointed out that it often happens that in bromance Ron and Harry get along just fine but they are nasty to Hermione. It seems to me that in parts of your story the same happens with Sirius, James and Remus. I still am not sure why Sirius is the one to help Remus. James doesn't seem as invested in this animagus business as Sirius. In fact while reading the first part of this chapter I caught my self thinking that Sirius does everything, well, except admiting he loved Remus. I just can't think of an explanatio why James would be unwilling to help. We could say Sirius acts rashly, but James also agreed with the plan, he hexed people for the fun of it, so he wasn't what you'd call a mature the first part it sounds as though you are implying that Sirius is a better friend to Remus. I hope I'm wrong about this. I uppose it could be argued that James is not so reckless, but I think that James only knows when the prank or a joke has gone too far whereas Sirius has a mean streak and is inconsiderate. Besides, I remember reading somewhere that teenagers don't think about consequences, and from what James said it seems that he considered them. So I do wonder what will make him change his mind. I'm only hoping they will keep their animagus business a secret from Remus or that they won't decide to ask him to help them. I am also curious whether the statement that Remus wasn't as bright as Sirius is just Remus's own mad notion or whether it's your own personal impression as well. If it's Remus's own thoughts on the matter, I'm not surprised. I especially liked the mention of those pranks Sirius pulled in potions. Also, I like that the others are planning a birthday prank. In such moments their interactions seem really well-done, even if one member is absent. I liked that part about the surprise exam and James's bus joke. |
Guest chapter 78 . 9/25/2018 I love Speckles. I loved that scene with Remus and this kitten. I knew Remus's self-esteem was as thin as paper, but the way he tries to justify Sirius's actions is terrifying. It's not dropping an orange into his porridge. Sirius broke his promisse. And that part about Sirius forgiving Remus's outbursts of temper was simply funny. Even I, who cries at the drop of a hat, could handle such outbursts just fine. I believe such behaviour is in character for Remus. I only hope he won't react the same way to that prank, because I think that would be over the top. I just hope you aren't using his reaction here to foreshadow his reaction to the prank. I loved that Speckles wanted to be with Remus. One of my favourite authors suggested in one of her fics that animals are actually fond of Remus because of his affliction. So the scene with Speckles reminded me of this idea. |
Guest chapter 77 . 9/25/2018 That part with the birthday gifts and the banter that it included was the sort of thing I imagined when I mentioned interactions between teenage boys. For some reason the fact Mdam Pomfrey sends Remus birthday gifts is very touching. I never expected it, but it was my favourite part. As you can tell, I'm not happy that Sirius is the sole animagi expert, because I've always thought they came up with this together (not counting Remus because I believe fernwithy's version of this event is correct and he didn't know). But I'll have to accept 's only that it contradicts other things that happened in canon and I do not see why Sirius should be braver than James. I really like this story, however, I do have to express my disappointment that it focuses so much on Remus and Sirius instead of focusing on Remus plus other three marauders. I suspect you like wolfstar, and so it's difficult to write them just as friends. The problem is that it seems to me you sacrifice other characters in order to create a friendship that seems somewhat strange in light of what we know about those characters. However, I really liked the mention of Remus's transformations in childhood. You mentioned small details but they seem very believable. I also liked the phrase 'happily second-hand''. I never thought these words could be found in one sentence. I also liked that Remus is willing to make funny remarks, I really like this gradual growth. And James soon won't be able to get throughthe door in the great hall because his ego is becoming larger adn larger. |
Guest chapter 76 . 9/25/2018 I'm glad Remus feels so guilty. I almost wished professor Meyriggg had said something considerate to increase his 's just so strange. I could understand his behaviour where Tonks was concerned, but the fact he broke into a teacher's office seems too much to bear. And Meyrigg is pregnant. What kind of last chance is she talking about? A chance to have a child? If so, she's mad. And all this,'Idon't want to stay here safe and warm and be useless' speech sounds suspiciously familiar. I'm not sure that scene with Narcissa was fitting. Remus in your story doesn't interfere into other people's business unless his friends do, so he then has no choice. That whole conversation about Andromeda was strange. Im not 12, but I still don't discuss such things so openly, and I have to admit I don't know anyone who does. I'll repeat myself, but these boys are teenagers, and things like pregnancies are too disturbing for them to even think about. I'm not saying they should resort to swear words in every chapter (I'm thankful they don't!), I just think they'd say she looks happy. Words like glowing or similar adjectives would be too much for them. I again have my usual concerns about Sirius's role in this story. I now think you want to write a bromance, but when the story is about the marauders, the only bromance is that of this whole group, or if we want a friendship between two men, Sirius and James are the best choice. The problem is that I can't believe that Remus and Sirius got along better than Sirius and James. You show Sirius and James's friendship in your story, and yet Sirius and Remus seem to share something James and Sirius don't, namely, Sirius's role as a a care taker when it comes to Remus, even though there are two other boys in this group. |
Guest chapter 75 . 9/25/2018 I still think Sirius knows when he had crossed the line. You portray him as a child who has no grasp of proper behaviour. I've met such children, and they aren't the ones raised by strict parents. I also think Sirius's role is far too prominent. I don't know whether you do this because you want Remus and Sirius to have a close relationship (Sirius seems to be the one who will come up with the animagus suggestion) or for some other reason, but it doesn't seem realistic for him to be the one who solves all the problems. It also gets a bit frustrating. Writers make this mistake with their original characters quite often. Now James seems shunted to the side in order to promote Sirius Remus. However, I'm glad Remus came to his senses at last. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm happy he got a week's detention. He acts a bit like my 10 year-old cousin, repeating the same mistake over and over. |
Guest chapter 74 . 9/25/2018 I really liked that Remus stood up to Sirius and James in the previous chapter. Both those scenes were brilliant. But his behaviour in this chapter was appalling. He has no spine. And I can sincerely tell I'm not surprised Sirius's mother finds it difficult to tolerate him. Who does he think he is? He is a lot like Harry in this respect, only that Harry usually knew his limits. I bet James mentioned Meyrigg was staying at school on purpose. Even gossiping girls know when to keep their mouths shut. I'm honestly surprised Sirius has so many fans. If he acted like that at school, I don't know how the teachers tolerated him. I remember reading a story where a person could not feel shame, so Sirius apparently is unable to feel guilt when he ought to. I understand he is worried about Regulus, but apparently all Blacks fly off the handle at the slightest provocation. It's a good thing McGonagall showed him his place. I don't know what made you decide Sirius is very stubborn, but if he is, I'm not surprised it's so difficult for others to control him. I wonder, though, where he got this idea he has a right to know all the answers, given the fact that his family doesn't seem to be the kind that treats children like adults. Poor Meyrigg. I hope Remus's mother will send him a howler or at least a very angry letter. |
Guest chapter 73 . 9/25/2018 Professor McGonagall doesn't value her sleep. I enjoyed that scene with her. And my trust in Remus Lupin has suffered a serious blow. I shall never recover. I do wonder whether they really broke into a teacher's office during their years at school. I'm not sure Remus would be so brave as to ask questions when he is already in trouble. But I loved Meyrigg's comment that he had given the same apology the previous time. Honestly, I'm beginning to think Remus doesn't have a strong sense of right and wrong. There's something off in his behaviour here, or maybe the very fact he doesn't feel very guilty for what he did seems wrong. I mean, he feels guilty about that incident with Davey, but violating someone's privacy doesn't seem such a big deal. I'm glad he is worried about her at least, and tried to help her. Oh and I knew that man was her husband! I bet she is on Dumbledore's side and those people took her husband and imprisoned him or something. |
