Absolutely bloody fantastic!
Guest chapter 9 . 5/10/2020
You my friend made a beautiful work of art. Thank you for sharing this story and I can honestly say it made me think about Harry Potter and life general in a different light, very deep. Also, Harry's death is fitting I don't think he could live with himself after everything he did without part of his soul. Awesome read.
ohhhdear chapter 9 . 4/21/2020
Such a tragic ending to a deeply emotional story.
Homarid chapter 9 . 3/19/2020
I loved this story. The beginning was captivating with Harry making up a language and Hermione deciphering it. Dumbledore coming back was a big surprise. I would have liked Harry to try to be himself again, but his suicide seem fitting. Thank you for the story.
Guest chapter 9 . 2/13/2020
Absolutely incredible psychological thriller. Saw the end coming but still hoped for a better life for them. thank you.
Truly unique
xhiris chapter 9 . 2/4/2020
Damn. That was beyond magnificent!
Guest chapter 9 . 1/30/2020
Oh ye was gonna mention the ominous forbidding of Harry's procedure compared to its completely irrelevant (from a world perspective) results are what makes me really think this wasn't the originally planned ending - or at least not the full thing.
DAS chapter 9 . 1/30/2020
Well that's certainly a divisive ending.

I remember reading most of this when it wasn't finished. Randomly I remembered the story and tried to find it only to find you had actually finished it some years ago (a rare treat in fanfiction).

I think it starts incredible strong. The world building is great. The last couple chapters feel like you just gave up. It's hard for me to say that because you clearly knew how many chapters were left long before the ending... But it feels like it didn't fall from your original outline.

Some of my gripes:
-The rune structure is described as a science not an art. There is nothing left to chance. Hermione simply has to put life into it. If this is the case he could have used anyone to do it. He didn't need someone who could understand him. He needed a Peter not a Hermione. Why would he mutilate the person he cares the most about? And if it's because he's unstable why does he show no regret at violating her soul either. It legit makes no sense. He could have shown her he was there without having her be the one he takes the soul from.
-He builds a suicide into a contraption he makes when he's unstable. If he needed to be 'whole' to suicide he wouldn't have put that in. If he didnt need to be whole to muster up the desire to kill himself he could have just done it after Hermoine understood his situation. It just feels so overdramatic. Why not just kill himself after his soul got recreated if that's what he wanted because he didn't want to depart to the afterlife broken? Great that he's risked putting Hermione in that dangerous position herself when he apparently could have used anyone for the soul.
-Dumbledore. Him being alive but in stasis for ages just feels like a cop out. It doesn't make sense. I can manage to create some possible explanation like he was good enough to lock himself up but not good enough to kill himself or he didn't want to die before Harry was gone but needed to wait for Harry to be vulnerable to do so. It's open ended enough that the reader can create a convoluted explanation for it but that's not exactly a strength. Either way it feeks weak.
-Why not let Dumbledore kill him? I assume it's to put down Dumbledore himself possibly as a mercy killing since he doesn't seem to consider him a threat to the world. I'll get back to this though.
-Why didn't Dumbledore just kill Harry. Why was he reasoning with Hermione? Especially if he was willing to kill Harry without her consent? That whole scene felt off I was waiting to be told he couldn't do it for some reason but no he could the whole time and just wasted his chance.
-Why not heal Dumbledore too? If the whole idea was to die with a balanced soul he could have done the same courtesy for Dumbledore. He apparently knows how to write Dumbledore's soul runes. He could just take anyone to supply the life? If it was worth all this struggle to make his soul whole the least he could do for Dumbledore is restore him too.
-Whats with Harry's desperation at the end? He can off himself at any point. Is he trying to do it before he loses the will too? If so he clearly can see some truth in what Hermoine is saying despite feeling his only redemption is in death. For someone with a stressed survival instinct baking a suicide contraption and then killing himself despite his doubts just feels off base.
-The story itself has a very ominous perspective on what will happen. The world will never be the same. Harry sounds like a Pandora's box where if his procedure succeeds he will either be a devil or an angel for the world - something pivital and important. Instead the long and short of the story is basically Hermoine getting violated and traumatized as efficiently as possible by someone who supposedly cares a great deal for her.
-There's more problems in near end chapters but I'm too lazy to open other tabs on my phone. I think this could have ended in a satisfying death

The world building was great. I love the start and the mystery. Some of the conclusion is satisfying and fitting and the rest just stretches my suspension of disbelief beyond breaking. Thanks for writing a great story and it was a great story but I do feel the end was weak. I don't mind tragedy but the tragedy should make sense.
