something chapter 24 . 2/20/2018 I started reading this story on AO3 a couple of days ago, and couldn't think of anything else when I wasn't reading. O my god, what a story. I tend to be a bit sceptical when OC's are involved, but Anakil wormed his way into my heart, and you've found a perfect balance between narrators. Faramir and Boromir (Fatality and Boogie according to my auto correct, lol) are my all time favourites, especially well written interactions between them. I love how you portray them and their thoughts. Also, the chapters describing the attack on Osgiliath were the most intense fighting scenes I've ever read. It's incredible how you managed to give such a fantastic description of everything involving the battles, it was if I was there, and exhausting emotionally. Oh my lord, what a story. I was actually trying to find if you continued it somewhere, but no such luck I guess. It doesn't matter, I feel incredibly lucky with what you've gifted us. Thank you very much, and I hope you continued writing your own stories. You're definitely talented enough I'd say :) |
LifeIsAGreatAdventure chapter 24 . 10/4/2017 I've just found and caught up this story. So well written in large part-though some of Anakil's actions as time passes become hard to justify given simple exposrue to tactical training. (IE burying the messenger as opposed simply getting his message and going in the previous chapter). Still, your characters are very well written, the action equally so. Its been ten years since this story was updated and I assume you have moved on to other things. Still, it would be delightful to see updates on this now that I know it is here. Thanks so much for your hard work on what has come so far-hoping for updates someday. |
Doranwen chapter 24 . 5/8/2017 I've enjoyed this fic and wish it would be finished (though a decade after last posting is not a very hopeful sign, lol). |
Lorewen chapter 24 . 3/13/2017 I don't favorite many stories, as I insist that my favorites be clean, vivid, moving, accurate to canon (or a well-thought-out AU), with relatable, likeable characters and preferably at least a bit of humor. Messages is all of that and more! In particular, I don't think I have ever seen a better portrayal of the sheer length of the war and the effect that would have on the men fighting it, men who have never known peace and never expect to, who strive and die by the hundreds just to buy Gondor a little more time before her nearly inevitable defeat. I find a whole new respect for the courage that keeps these men smiling and laughing when there is no end in sight, when Anakil is the only one naive enough to look forward to a final victory. It's all the more moving since I've done the math; I know they only have to hold on for nine more months, a mere minute compared with the years they have already been fighting! But it will be the worst nine months of the war. How many will not see the peace that is so close? Boromir, for instance: Gondor has less than three weeks with her beloved Captain General (if my math is right) before he leaves for the mysterious North, never to return. It is a good thing that Faramir is wrong for once, and Gondor's hope does not just rest in the Steward's Heir, but in both his sons, whatever their father's opinion of them. Anyway, enough rambling. Suffice it to say, well done with this story! |
Cerisabeth chapter 24 . 3/1/2013 I like Anakil's character. It's a really interesting and thrilling story! :) |
Altariel chapter 24 . 4/4/2011 I reread this over the weekend. How marvellous it would be if it was continued. I'd love to see your take on Denethor, and the meeting between father and sons. |
Naiala chapter 24 . 3/27/2010 I just read this fic and I like it, I'd like to see it finished, Anakil is Mary Sue in male, though. I've enjoyed so much. |
Anne chapter 24 . 1/14/2010 Probably the best Lord of the Rings fanfic centered around Gondor that Ive read so far. Your characters are believable and three-dimensional and the story is canon based yet illuminates a lot of different societal aspects unexplored by Tolkien. Loved it, I really hope that you will finish the story someday. |
Camille chapter 24 . 7/21/2009 Your story is fantastic and the characters you have crafted leap off the page and are intriguing. I thoroughly enjoyed all 24 chapters and hate that the story was not finished. I would love to know what happens to the Poet and Anakil. Thank you for taking the time to share your story. |
asdfjkl chapter 24 . 11/13/2008 awesome story! you have to update. how does the council go? are anakil's brothers still alive? does he manage to deliver the messages? ai! what happens? UPDATE SOON! IT'S ALREADY BEEN OVER A YEAR! so yeah xD |
eva chapter 8 . 4/30/2008 I've been trying to find a story about the brothers' escape from the bridge of Osgiliath by swimming, for a long time, and I finally found it! Thank you for this wonderful story! Both of the brothers, the rangers, and the massengers and great heroes in their time. Their deeds have moved me so much. |
Haarajot chapter 24 . 3/23/2008 Great story! You told superbly about the relationship between Boromir and Faramir. I also liked the way you described Boromir's greatness that is hinted at in the books. Poignant and beautifully rendered is the role of children in a war. |
Kestrel chapter 24 . 1/10/2008 I just came upon this story a few days ago. It is wonderful! Good storyline, great characters. You have really brought Boromir and Faramir to life for me, along with your OCs. I hope you will continue to write this story, as I am hoping against hope that somehow Beldil survived, and that the big brute Glaurung ended his life in a quiet pasture somewhere. However it ends, I will be eagerly awaiting the rest of the story. |
faramiriel chapter 24 . 12/31/2007 please please please please plese update REALLY REALLY SOON! |
spacecow1 chapter 24 . 6/14/2007 You're back! YAY! I love the new chapters, of course. Can't wait for more... |
