Interesting "back story".
And a history lesson! (sort of)
Sometimes I feel sorry for Tanya. Sometimes.
| miaokuancha chapter 1 . 11/7/2011
"He'd rather someone teach him to play Chaturanga, the mysterious Indian ancestor of chess, but there are only a handful of immortals left in the world old enough to remember the rules, and Tanya is too young to be one of them."
With this one sentence you make the entire mythology come to life - as if there truly is such a world. Brilliant.
This vignette is so short and yet so very full of subtle sadness. You really make me feel for Tanya, just by virtue of Edward's omissions - even as courteous as they are. Really really impressive bit of writing. (You've also prompted me to google ashte kashte, and chaturanga ...)

I hate Tanya, but I like this. Well done.

Edward was so uncomfortable here I was cringing for him and wishing for a freak meteor storm or something for the poor vampire. The wiki thing was FUNNY, I was snickering at Tanya like crazy. She's so easy to hate sometimes. Yeah, Edward miscalculated that horribly though-show up unexpectedly AND got her a gift of pink rocks? Yeah.
