robspace54 chapter 19 . 4/17/2012
Another parting moment for the pair, as neither will tell the other what they need!

Very nicely done!
Boots1980 chapter 19 . 4/16/2012
Your analogy of Martin's "low grade level of despair" being like a "damp and musty cloak" is perfectly juxtaposed with his thoughts of what he will miss by going to London, a damp and musty city. Your skillful use of words have made Louisa's emotions very real, particularly her own despair over her mother and Martin. Louisa was not the only one crying at the end of this chapter.

If only Martin would just tell her how he feels. Oh well, not long now. Great chapter.

Charming images of Martin as a caring father and realizing how lucky he is to have a child. He is beginning to comprehend just how much he will lose by not being present full-time.

Too bad neither he nor Louisa are willing to express what is

in their hearts.

Nice chapter.

Come on, one of them has to crack soon!

Awww. I love the interaction between Martin and James and Louisa's thoughts at the end. Really well done!
Boots1980 chapter 18 . 4/10/2012
James can only influence his dithering parents so much no matter how hard he tries. The decision about a godmother is the least thing Martin and Louisa have to decide for the benefit of their child. Lovely ending with tears for all four of them.

Oh go on Louisa, just curl up next to Martin eh? Those two need a fairy godmother in the shape of the ghost of Joan to give them a huge shove in the right direction I think!

I'm glad Louisa got to witness this scene with Martin and James Henry. Great chapter, looking forward to your next update.

If only, if only... Very nice chapter reading Doc's thoughts.
Chapin chapter 18 . 4/8/2012
So tender- so poignant - so sad. In the words of Auntie Joan, "Silly boy. Why doesn't he just tell her how he feels?". And we would add, "Silly girl. Why doesn't she just tell him how she feels?
Bodmin chapter 18 . 4/8/2012
Martin really was taken by surprise by his love for James. For once he found someone for whom he wants to care and who lets him. He wanted to care for Louisa, but she pushed him away. He wanted to care for Joan, but she didn't want to. He never gave a toss about anyone else.

James is there, needs his care, accepts it happily, and he has an untainted time with him.

I'm glad that Louisa saw the two together. Maybe it brings her to her senses.

Love how you are weaving this in with the canon. In the past Martin has been able to shut out, ignore, and walk away from things that he doesn't know how to deal with, but as every parent knows, it's so very different when you have kids, as Martin is discovering for himself in this excellent chapter.
