Wow. This was in fact very sad, I shed some tears on this one and that never really happened before. Loved how you described holmes' anger and bitter sadness. Always loved robert downey jr's version of holmes and always will. Great work!

Oh, fantastic story! And a great interpretation of what Holmes was feeling when he heard of her death and the scene of him and the handkerchief on the boat! RDJ is such a great actor that I swear he was about to cry in both scenes! I really liked what you did with what we saw in the movie.
But there was an amusing thing for me in this story... Coincidentally, my name is Irene... And you gave Irene Adler MY middle name! Haha! :D

This was so harsh and sad but beautiful all the same.
| Alaynna chapter 1 . 1/6/2012
Thank you for giving us this. I was so disappointed by Holmes's reaction in the movie. I thought it did complete injustice to all the buildup in SH1. He had a moment, and I understand that S/I was not the focus of the sequel, BUT STILL. Anyway, it cheers me to read this. Thank you!

I loved this. I hope write another Sherlock Irene story sometime soon.
| IseeButterfly chapter 1 . 1/5/2012
wow, that was truly great!
You pictured his emotions nicely, even if a little bit dramatic. I am not sure if Holmes really loved Adler, since it was only mentioned that he "admired" her in the books, and there was never a real romance going on between them (i mean in the original books, there are however, versions of other authors that portray them having a child later, who has equally strong mental skills as Sherlock does).
But still, loved her or not, I don't know (and I woud have loved to see a romance between these two, they are perfect, I think) Holmes shock and rage about her death was obvious in the movies and Adler's feelings for him were even mentioned. I think you wrote down just what was missing, Holmes reaction after he left Moriaty, but I like the way it was in the movie.
It left a lot for the imagination, and interpretation and gave room for such great fanfictions as this one.
I liked how it said that Holmes was disgusted by being utterly human, because I agree that it was very unsherlock to cry, yet fitting in this situation. He would only cry for her, wouldn't he? And Watson, probably.
But I think the movie liked to make it obvious, what you said in the story, that she was his only woman, as we could see it in little reference like when Watson told Holmes that he would die alone (of course, at this point unknowing about Irene's fate) or the pure fact that Holmes obviously didn't have the slightest interest in the new female lead.
Geez, sorry for the long review, I like to let the author's of stories I review know what i think about them, it's better than "this was good" in my opinion, I enjoy long reviews myself, so I want to give them to other's as well. ;)
Well, if Irene really is dead, we don't know, I hope not, the character appears in the books after Moriaty's (and Holme's as it seemed at first) death in Switzerland, again, and there is a hint about her, when moriaty takes the black chess queen, when he tells Holmes about Adler's death, and later puts it on the board again, after Holmes left. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just one of Moriaty's tricks, it would fit him, didn't he threaten Watson's life and Mary's as well just to unsettle Holmes.
We'll see. Sorry for the long review again, I hope to read more of you! Cheers

So close to tears right now, and my heart is physically hurting. Dammot! Why do I read these fics? XD so beautiful - I loved the bit about how she was worth shedding tears over particularly. I tell you, Guy Richie is right at the top of my hit list for killing Irene off! So lovely - and just OOC enough for it to seem real, like just a hidden aspect of his character rather than being unbelievable. I absolutely loved it! Xxx

Dear, it isn't the Mediterranean! They're crossing the English Channel, England to France. Far from the Mediterranean.
| IssyEmm chapter 1 . 12/30/2011
This was absolutely beautiful, and so in character. I really do think he loves, and you portrayed how he would react perfectly. Not going to lie, did cry a litte at this. Amazing.
| Cindy Ryan chapter 1 . 12/28/2011
Enjoyed it :) Very nicely done :)
| 10293845 chapter 1 . 12/28/2011
I really enjoyed that! Great progression of emotions, withheld but gradually released, very strong and somehow fitting Holmes... I liked how he was constrained, strangled by the power of pain and grief, before finally trying to let go. And on a side note, I hope Irene returns for the possible third movie, since her death was left slightly ambiguous :) Again, good job, thanks for sharing :)
