Gene is just a bundle of anger and hurt in this. Using the Master as framing device to Gene's angst worked well. For Gene, having a rich politician looking like Sam must only emphasize how truley gone Sam is. I like how Gene can't look back, because he'll beg. And I love how you set the ending up. 'Gene doesn't beg, not for anybody' to 'only he would. Godamn it, he would.'
One of the most thoughtful crossovers I've seen.
