Yep. Best fic ever. Loved rereading it.

The plot of this story had me gripped more than most that I've read - it got to the point where I was genuinely worried for the characters. The point where Arthur forgets who Merlin is is devastating, because we know as readers what their friendship is, and what it means. Thank you for this.

wow. incredibly deep, meaningful talk here, but they manage to do it with a lightness that's refreshing...
and good for arthur, finally realizing that he trusts merlin (and always has, deep down?)
loved it, thanks very much for all your hard work writing it!

hooray for arthur /not/ ordering merlin anymore!
and that's a very nice line - merlin didn't agree that arthur /needed/ him to be a good king, anymore, but he didn't want to miss seeing it... :)
| wryter501 chapter 30 . 3/2/2015
so little merlin can send them back, but - gasp! - what about the memory-wipe spell?
kind of sad that arthur, not remembering merlin at all, decides to try to reach him because it seems to matter to the people - he is a good king, after all.
awwwww - the little boy hug. /so/ cute!
i find i'm a bit worried about the pendant. remembering the talk about morgana using some object from the boys' time to complete the spell in the first place. if it ends up with little arthur who doesn't remember anything of what happened, i totally see him giving it to morgana when he gets back to his own time... and thereby enabling the whole thing... (bit like the watch in 'somewhere in time')
aye, gosh! merlin without a pulse...
| wryter501 chapter 29 . 3/2/2015
oh, i love little merlin. i want to fight for a bit, if i can. pure merlin adorable-ness. and little arthur, using his shield... (have to confess, it bothered me a bit in the previous chapter, adult merlin thinking, only i can fight morgana and save all of us - i love it when merlin&arthur work together - and this is four of them!)
i like the dragon taking on morgana. wished he would have done this in series and quit making that merlin's job! (yeah, yeah, i know, dragon's policy of non-intervention)
it's nice to realize, that the memory of the two little boys becoming friends isn't lost, per se, just delayed until their older selves experience it second-hand...
and what a funny (touching) little scene where both arthurs care for their merlins. :)
| wryter501 chapter 28 . 3/2/2015
it's so characteristic of merlin - even though he can't remember why arthur is important personally, he's determined to protect the king. and even though he can't remember anyone living in camelot or what they mean to him, he knows the kingdom and people are more important than him...
your prose, btw, in the section when merlin is dealing with the rockslide, trying to climb, mimics his process very well.
oh, /good/! because little arthur's wards are intact! (but i love that he didn't think about that, and that i didn't remember it!)
geez-oh-pete. excalibur won't work against morgana? - *facepalm*.
and merlin. forgetting how to call the dragon. !
| wryter501 chapter 27 . 3/2/2015
thing is, if she does kill little arthur/merlin, then doesn't her life change as well?... (okay, time paradox then, wouldn't her older self never follow through on these events, thereby never killing little arthur/merlin?... idk, i'm confused, let's just not think about that)...
but nice little set-up mirroring how merlin saved arthur when they 'first' met, arthur saving merlin from a witch's thrown knife...
| wryter501 chapter 26 . 3/2/2015
oh, crap, now she knows. and merlin's hurt. and trapped. yikes!
| wryter501 chapter 25 . 3/2/2015
i love that the memory loss means they have to depend on little arthur in a very real way...
i really love arthur's realization that the way things went - morgana becoming evil, the way he treated merlin - made him the man he is today. so many stories are about, oh if only /this/ hadn't happened... i like that he thinks, to a certain extent, it was good that they happened... but what a funny circle of fate - arthur talking to arthur talking to...
| wryter501 chapter 24 . 3/2/2015
huh, boy. so they switched bodies, hm? i can't decide whether is very bad, or surprisingly good... oh, only temporary - and little arthur ran away?...
i would love to see arthur's pov of this scene - adult merlin never does show this kind of vulnerability... poor thing, begging not to be sent back... :(
geez, arthur, took you long enough to connect with little you...
oh no - the memory loss - it's funny, but it's not. guinevere doesn't have a brother - who's guinevere? you mean someone actually married you!?
| wryter501 chapter 23 . 3/2/2015
wow. that's ironic - arthur resisting merlin using healing magic on an injury sustained during a speech about bringing magic back. it's not intentional hypocrisy, but it's there nonetheless. and i get the feeling he hasn't really dealt with that, either...
thing is, merlin chooses to obey arthur the way no one else in the kingdom does. but arthur can't order him to go against his instincts to provide the best protection he can, or handle the magic the way he chooses...
so. adult arthur hasn't got the market cornered on maturity. :)
in case i forget. sigh. why do i have the feeling that both merlin and arthur are going to need to rely on their written memories before this thing is done?...
i kind of hoped, maybe, with the physical aspect of the telepathic link, adult merlin might have been able to pass some of his health/strength to his younger self, rather than the reverse... sigh. poor merlin. both of them.
| wryter501 chapter 22 . 3/2/2015
the thing is, to have merlin's obedience (as i see it) requires two things - that he and arthur /agree/, to begin with, and that arthur make allowances for merlin acting on his own occasionally in arthur's best interests (even if arthur gets exasperated about the risks he takes).
this arthur... seems almost to want two different merlins. one to handle the problems of magic, and one to be his friend/adviser...
i'm kind of proud of little arthur, too. aaaand - more fireworks!...
| wryter501 chapter 21 . 3/2/2015
i love the idea of arthur writing down this one most important memory. not the least because it allows us to see that moment, but because i have the feeling that it might help arthur work through the emotions he's been struggling with this whole story (and might not otherwise have done)...
wow, though. beautiful and terrible and momentous and poignant... a crowd of people using magic!... wow. for merlin.
