| Skyflight Erek's Loyalty chapter 1 . 2/25/2012
First of all, Erek's name is not spelled Erik. It's spelled Erek. E. R. E. K. Erek.
Second, I cannot believe you are seriously trying to blame Rachel's and Tom's deaths on Erek! It was not in any way his fault! In book 53, there is a definite place when Jake just snaps. He knows what he is going to do, and he knows that his plan is probably going to cause Rachel's and Tom's death. He and the others force Erek against his will to follow their plan. The fact that he blames Erek afterward is only due to his own stupidity and guilt.
Third, there is no way the Ellimist would ever make such an offer. In the Ellimist Chronicles, the Ellimist says he created the Pemalites and made them to be peaceful. Erek, as a Chee, is programmed with Pemalite instincts as well as the prohibition against violence. The Ellimist wouldn't want Erek to change his programming.
Fourth, Jake should definitely not accept the offer. When Erek changed his programming, he was so out of control that he killed eighty-eight sentient beings in a matter of seconds, including twenty humans and twenty-four Hork-Bajir. It was terrible, and it had a terrible effect on Erek. The Animorphs were never about killing innocent lives, they were about saving humankind and Hork-Bajir from the Yeerks and only killed when they had to. Erek's changing his programming was a terrible idea; that's why he changed it back. Also, if Erek were to keep the Pemalite crystal, it would probably have had an even worse ending. Erek saved the Animorphs (and all of Earth) on numerous occasions through the spying done by him and the other Chee. There are so many times when Erek provided the Animorphs with the information they needed to win the war. The whole reason he was able to do that was because he wasn't engaged in combat. The Animorphs never had very much time for spying, did they?
Having Erek keep the Pemalite crystal would have terrible effects, for the Animorphs and the fate of the planet, and for Erek personally. And it would not change Rachel's and Tom's deaths, which were completely not Erek's fault. Please, please, do not make Jake accept the offer.
