Reviews for Legend of Faye
silentlysnowing chapter 3 . 10/15
Nice story! I like how this balances the line of treating legendaries as regular catchable Pokemon but also showing that they're incredibly powerful and not to be messed with. Great work!
Birdboy chapter 3 . 8/10/2012
It's always fun to see the legendaries tamed, but it's nice to have a fic like this, which treats them as the powerful, one-of-a-kind legends they are. A solid fic about power and pride taken too far.
C.B. Magique chapter 3 . 6/21/2012
Nice to read a practical Pokemon story every once in a while but I don't think there's anything I want to tell you that other people haven't already told you (yes, I read your reviews because I'm nosy like that).

:D
5th Dimension chapter 1 . 4/23/2012
Wait a second...

Lily has a Growlithe, and she challenged a grass-type Gym, and lost. And she has five badges. Based on the levels involved... how did she lose? Is her Growlithe less than level ten? Does it have no fire-type moves learned? If she has a high-level and strong Beedrill, why did she lose?

Other than that, it's starting out good.
liliana chapter 3 . 3/31/2012
Great fic.

It feels very complete while being short, a rare thing on ff, especially in this fandom.

I love your approach to legendaries because for once it's damn logical! They're pokemon, a determined trainer might just catch one but then it's not just a super powerful pokemon, it's a dangerous being which values it's freedom and has friends.

The battles were a treat, I've never played the games so I don't know the pokedex by heart and I'm very happy when I can visualise a battle without having to wrack my mind or go look a move up on Bulbapedia.

Just one real problem: your summary is terrible. There is no way to tell it is ironical before reading the fic. I read this because of (thanks to?) Farla.

I'd ignored this fic at least twice before because the summary made me think 'oh, another awesome girl trainer is heading out on a journey'. It was a hasty and unfair judgement but I thought I'd mention it.
Sheena'is chapter 3 . 2/26/2012
This story is amazing! I mean, it's rare enough to see a story on here in which the author actually uses proper grammar and punctuation, let alone one that's actually worth reading. Yours is both of those.
Ember A. Keelty chapter 3 . 2/1/2012
Heck yes, Sabrina! :D

"In seconds the balance had shifted, as the psychic-types ran rings around the electric-type."

Those particular epithets are kind of an odd choice here; it's distracting because it makes me pause for a moment to make sure I'm remembering correctly and that psychic isn't actually strong against electric, and then to try to work out what you actually meant. It's especially confusing because the Xatu are actually at a type disadvantage, what with being part flying.

And your Articuno is just as terrifying as your Moltres.

Farla was right, this is completely excellent.
Ember A. Keelty chapter 2 . 2/1/2012
Oh man. THIS is how you write a Pokémon battle. I think my favorite part is that you have the fire actually behaving like fire. It lets you get creative and avoid the attack-name laundry list trap that a lot of fan authors fall prey to, and besides, there are few things as effective at tapping into the fear centers of the human brain. Between that and the clear, urgent prose, you've got my adrenaline going.

You know, it's odd given how terrible she is, but I can't help but be kind of fond of Faye. She really is doing an excellent Bellerophon impression.
Farla chapter 3 . 1/31/2012
["I should have realised if one of them was there, the other one would show up, and I was still flying around on a bloody water-type. And... you know. Everyone told me I didn't know what I was doing." ]

I love the practicality of this. It's not that she should have realized both scary god pokemon would appear so fighting was futile. It's that she should have been ready for electric attacks. I'm not sure she completely learned the lesson of not messing with legendaries or if it's just that she'll have to be sure she can take on all of them.

Also, yay for the articuno being hateful instead of forgiving them all just because they finally released it under incredible duress.
Farla chapter 2 . 1/31/2012
And wow, things have gotten epic. It's an interesting balance here, the moltres this unstoppable force before the combined trainers, and yet at the same time, Faye actually being able to go up against it, even if it is incredibly dangerous.
Farla chapter 1 . 1/31/2012
Hm. This looks interesting, and it's nice to see the focus put on everyone's reaction to the legendary instead of the legendary itself.
