![]() ![]() I both love and hate this story. I love this story because of the Doofenshmirtz sub-plot (which seriously couldn't be more perfect if Dan and Swampy had written it themselves) and the scene with Phineas and the dentist (which is also brilliant), and because it touches upon a subject near and dear to my heart - namely, mental health. I hate this story because of the way the subject of mental health is handled. Don't get me wrong, the PREMISE is pure gold. Candace absolutely should be seeing a psychiatrist, even WITH the fact that her brothers' shenanigans are real and not actually delusions, and Linda should have brought her in a long time ago. My problem isn't with Candace either - I would have preferred that she handle the situation with maturity and speak honestly, but this response is also in-character for her and I respect that. Also, while lying to one's psychiatrist is the OPPOSITE of what one should do in real life, in this context it's probably for the best. Norman is a quack of the highest order. I'm not calling him "Dr. Norman," because he doesn't deserve the title. I can't remember the last time I hated a character anywhere near as much as I hate him. Mental health professionals are supposed to HELP people. They're supposed to be patient listeners. They're supposed to use common sense and scientific reasoning. Norman takes one of the things I hate most about fictional characters - jumping to irrational conclusions - and applies it to one of the situations where it is MOST problematic. He barely talks to Candace for thirty seconds before arbitrarily deciding that he understands the situation. He ignores the need for informed consent. He doesn't understand the concept of a hyphenated name. He assigns diagnoses without anything remotely resembling adequate information, about someone who was NOT his patient, based on the non-patient's behavior WHILE DRUGGED. I'm a 20-year-old college student with only two (maybe three?) Psych courses under my belt, but NOT ONLY could I have handled this situation better than he did, I could have done so FOUR YEARS AGO, BEFORE I'D TAKEN ANY OF SAID PSYCH COURSES. Candace would have been better off talking with Hannibal Lecter, I'm not even kidding - at least he has a modicum of patience and is capable of thinking rationally. Also, Linda seems a bit more hostile and callous than I think she should be, but that's small potatoes compared to Norman. |
![]() ![]() The best part was Phineas at the dentist |

![]() ![]() ![]() This was fun to read. I love Vanessa getting into the evil while she is filling in for her father and the doctor thinking Linda is the crazy one and Phineas in the dentists office. Easy to picture as an episode. Fun story, thanks for sharing. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hmm, it's interesting that Dr. Norman wanted to analyze Linda rather than Candace... Maybe he's in on the whole thing? And the fact that he looked like Norm was a funny joke you threw in there. Also, the dentist wanting a sedative to shut Phineas up was so great! I could totally imagine Phineas with nanobots all over his teeth. The humor you put in the story was a lot like the show's - I don't know if you meant for it to be like that, but good job! Keep writing! |

![]() ![]() ![]() See, that's just brilliant. I love this story, from Candace being ten foot tall and blue, to them returning to Alpha Centauri to help Stacy, and especially Phineas being loopy. |
![]() ![]() Maybe Ozzy and Drix can blow up the zits with Drix's grenade |

![]() ![]() ![]() This story is well-structured, in-character, and true to the show, as with your other fanfics. |
