flamedash chapter 5 . 5/5/2012 Yay! I love Mary's relationship with Eddie. One thing confuses me: Rob Crawley is married to Isabella Thorpe Crawley, right? But who is the "Charlotte" That Rob Crawley mentions in chapter 3? |
DellaDay chapter 1 . 5/5/2012 So glad to see this new chapter. I check for one every day. |
noyougirls chapter 5 . 5/5/2012 I can't begin to tell you how much I love this story. It's by far my favourite WIP at the moment. I've been very remiss about reviewing so far, and I'm sorry, because it's just fantastic! It's such a clever way of doing a modern AU, because it brings the old (TV) characters into it, while still keeping interest in the new characters. And well done for making them similar, yet convincingly different. One thing's the same, though...I'm still rooting for Matthew and Mary! I can't wait to be tortured by them just the way I was during series 2. Thanks again for such a great story and, needless to say, please update soon! |
Crumby chapter 4 . 5/3/2012 "Merde!" LOL. "I don't know what yours is like, but he's a walking sitcom." Hee. Bad idea! Hehe. I'm really enjoying this story. Thank you for sharing. |
Crumby chapter 3 . 5/3/2012 "Aurelie? French. Very. And in the best way possible." Hahaha. As a fellow French, this made me laugh. I loved the different characters. Aurelie, Greg, Ben... They were a lot of fun. Great chapter! Fun, intriguing, great characters and character interactions/ I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm liking the business part of things, it's not too detailed to derail interest, easy to follow, but very interesting. It makes for a great context for the character interactions. I'm also liking the family issues that are there, and I'm very curious to read more. |
Crumby chapter 2 . 5/3/2012 Very interesting. Great Chapter. I liked the split POVs. I'm going to read Chapter 3, now. :) |
Crumby chapter 1 . 5/3/2012 Intriguing and interesting premise. I like it. Off to read Chapter 2. :) |
smndolphin chapter 4 . 5/1/2012 Please forgive the tardiness of this review! Broken record at this point, but it bears repeating, am absolutely addicted to this story! Was pleasantly surprised to find out that the story was a leak, in part because of the love I had already developed for Alastair in the brief introduction we got to him in the last chapter. I loved how Matthew's first reaction was to talk to Mary, and do to so on her turf, so to speak. I knew at the very least he wouldn't be getting rid of her, so was anxious to see what the truth was and the way everything played out with Alastair taking over as CEO was priceless. I felt bad for Mary while she thought she was pushed out and how she felt terrible for what she perceived had happened to Alastair and the way Matthew smoothed everything over was just wonderful. And then when he told her what he was hoping she would accept, her initial reaction of wanting to slap him melting away to ... :D. Loved the banter about the assistants (definitely hope to see more of Greg and Aurelie in this story!) And then when they were alone, loved the shades of Matthew and Mary 1.0 from 1X04 with him offering his hand, her taking it, and neither one letting go when they probably should have. And then iPhones break the spell. I could totally see the original Matthew Crawley completely hating the concept of being reachable at all times via such a device. Am definitely curious to see what'll happen at the Sunday dinner, especially in light of the sweeping changes Matthew had wrought. I'm also wondering how/why Eddie was not part of the information Matthew had received and I hope he gets to meet her soon. As they talked more and Mary reaction to him when he left, I really starting to see why you titled this chapter "Bad idea" as it was becoming clear she was not immune to him. And then it was absolutely priceless how you bridged the past Mary and Matthew with the present through the photograph on Mary's wall of her great-grandfather and his wife smiling at him with pride, to a contemporary equivalent of her smiling at Matthew 2.0 (in a way she didn't even realize she was doing) in the exact same positions as her great-grandparents. Beautiful visual :). Over the course of this working relationship, Mary and Matthew are clearly going to butt heads, but I love the foundation you're laying out for them :). Very much loved that you closed the day in the same way you opened it, allowing us to see how they each ended their day. Loved how they both balked at the idea of celebrating, for different reasons and each wondered how the other would get home, him wondering about how Mary would be given that her car's softcover wasn't exactly warm and her wondering if Matthew would ride his motorcycle home, and her reaction to him in his motorcycle leathers. Well, if there had been any doubt (and there wasn't) that these two are attracted to each other, it's gone. They are also clearly going to do their best to NOT mix business and pleasure. I wonder how long that will last :D. Absolutely wonderful work and no words for how much I'm loving this story. Thank you so much for writing this and I can't wait to see what comes next! |
GenuineRisk chapter 4 . 4/25/2012 I don't know much about stocks or finance, but I love this story! What a great idea! Can't wait to see where you take us! :) |
jmar chapter 4 . 4/25/2012 How could anything M&M be a 'bad idea'? I jest. This modern AU story is quite enjoyable for me. I can't imagine what twists & turns you have up your sleeve, but I'm waiting patiently for the story continuation. Thanks! |
justwords chapter 4 . 4/24/2012 I love love love love love this story! I love it so much I want to eat it and am actually salivating at the thought. The characters are so true to their 10s (now 20s) selves and yet so punchily modern. There's the right mix of new characters (Greg, Aurelie ha!) /concepts (Eddie!) and references to old scenes (the hand shake is incredible). The internal company politics is fantastic and everything is so wonderfully paced. I love that it rollicks along and that all this has happened in 24hours; it really emphasises the quieter moments when the characters are standing still. I can't wait to gobble the next instalment and I hope for my gluttonous self that it is very soon! |
OrangeShipper chapter 4 . 4/24/2012 Aaaaaaahhhh! I really, really love this. Such a different take on modern M/M and their dynamic just CRACKLES. I have no words for how much I adore strong, confident, sexy Matthew. HE IS... I ACTUALLY HAVE NO WORDS. And Mary's resentment of him is SO true to form, and the way he banters back at her but wants the best, and... oh, I love it. HANDSHAKE. Mirroring scenes at the end were gorgeous... PLEASE say they meet up on their ways out and please say you'll write it soon! |
ARCurren chapter 4 . 4/24/2012 Upon reflection, I think my favorite bit is how you preserved the Mary/Carson relationship with Mary/Alastair. Mary's reflection about being believed in was so moving I almost teared up :) And perfect description of Alastair embodying the company culture! Greg and Aurelie are brilliant comic additions. I'm really enjoying the little glimpses into Matthew's head as he tries to figure out the family- it's a great updating of S1. I can't wait to see Mary thrive as GFD, although I wonder if she and Matthew will butt heads a bit- Mary's no company man after all! Great job with the pacing as always! |
mbee11 chapter 4 . 4/23/2012 I forgot to review the last chapter but the past 2 (and the first 2!) have been great. It's a very unique concept on the modern M/M idea! I'm excited to see where this goes next...Mary and Matthew sharing a car perhaps? Really looking forward to the family dinner as well! Thanks for such a great Monday treat! |
maricejayo chapter 4 . 4/23/2012 Wow! Why I haven't read this before? This is pretty brilliant, go on, I want to know more! |
