Oh my gosh! I was so excited to see a new fic (post-Reichenbach and all!) by you appearing in my inbox. It's early days yet, but this chapter did NOT disappoint. I really like how you've set John up as a sort of heir to Sherlock's mantle of crime-fighting, with a homeless network and all. There're some really interesting things here and I can't wait to see how you develop them!

Yay! Verity! I love love your stories, regardless of the level of emotional pain that they cause. In fact the emotional pain just must keep me crawling back for more, because the excited hand-flailing squeak that happened when I got the notification for your new story was surpassed only by the hand flailing and squeaking as I actually read this first chapter. Yes. Score. New verity storygreat time to be a Sherlock fan. If it gets too emotionally trying I'll hop on over for some of Atlin's porn or Mirith's plot with porn. :-) But no worries, I'll come back, we always come back for your beautiful, beautiful plot.

Also this is the first story I've seen where damaged, depressed John is also functioning and sort of continuing his and Sherlock's work. I think it's a great direction to go!

Verity I love you, you are my favorite, and I possibly squealed a bit when I got the Notification email for this story.

And then, it's THE ADVENTURE OF THE EMPTY HOUSE, EVEN MORE JOY! I mean, of course it would be, but AHH. 3

Okay so I just. Do you know why I love you? Do you know why you are my favorite author in the fandom? Lots of reasons, but I'm stuck on John right now. I am ALL SORTS of in love with his nameless, not-quite-unacknowledged suffering. One of those "it's what WASN'T said that counts the most" things that I both adored and was frustrated by in the original story (I think Dr. Watson allowed himself MAYBE a paragraph of emotional reference besides "omg shockfaint" in which he alluded vaguely to the death of his wife?). So hello HELLO perfect narration! If John can't even consciously admit it to himself, how are WE supposed to know? Poor baby. :c

Plus the whole Robin Hood Doctor thing, love it! Great decision! These days John WOULD definitely do a bit more than just think on weird cases in the news, go and visit a crime scene once or twice, whatever. Plus this does way better at showing how broken he really is. Mmmm tasty hurt! And MORE TO COME!
