|Reviews for Feathers 1 : Candle In The Sun|
| Guest chapter 1 . 9/28
Loved the quote from Robert Burton: "To...illustrate this power and effect of love is to set a candle in the sun". Or one could read this charming story to the same effect.
First, the incredible attention to detail, is truly a hallmark of your stories. They draw one into whatever is happening. Here, at the beginning, one learns about Johnny's morning ritual. You also become aware of the normalities of life that one takes for granted. (Loved:the
"Plainest thing about Johnny Madrid"...was his belt).
Then, there is the attention to details regarding the brothers comradery: natural dialog; "parroting"; and the wise ass reference to Cane and Abel. Showing that each was his brother's keeper.
Next, is the details regarding Johnny's subtle observations of city life, and why he changed hotels. (Beautiful description of twilight: " Shadowed with a dusk as purple as the bloom on a grape"). Other canny observations: "Priests don't care much for sinners". And Johnny remembering Teresa's flowers. Even a special nod to Senora Isabella's special shirts.
All these attentions to details, build up to and illustrate the anticipations, of a man in the power of love.

Great job here. I love Johnny and Jassamie.

Ah yes, this is a much happier tag for this episode!
Johnny has so many facets to his personality...gunhawk, joker, confident man or vulnerable boy, friend or lover. WE saw a few of these in this episode. Thanks for this tag.

This ending was much happier than the Baked Goods version (which I really liked a lot, even though Johnny was dead) ... both storylines invite the reader to let their imaginations finish the tale.
