It's been awhile since I've read some of your older work, hasn't it?! This was excellent and very moving (although Sammy not liking the clowns made me laugh!).

Marianna, you know that you're not allowed to break our hearts, so why must you continue to do so? This was wonderful, despite my breaking heart!

I like the idea that John hates clowns also.

I love protective daddy John...

Oh darn it, now you've made me cry...This was just so sad and touching, and so beautifully written. Loved John in this and love how you used Mary's lines from before a key part in this story. Just overall a really awesome story!
And I love this as an explanation for Sam's lingering fear of clowns. ;D Could totally see John trashing that mobile with clowns though...lol
Great to see John as the caring father, even though you can already see something of the emotionally closed off person he's going to become in the future in this...That's just sad...

Beautiful, sweet, sad one-shot. We sometimes forget what Mary's death did to John, just how personal it must have been, if you get my meaning.
Cheers my dear.

I think you did a wonderful job of writing John as he deals with the loss of Mary and now being a single father.
You had some great lines in your story. These two sections were some of my favorite thoughts from John.
'Because while that fire – and whatever thing pinned Mary to the nursery ceiling – took one of my reasons for living, I still had two more; the best things Mary ever gave me besides her love and trust...my two precious baby boys; my Sammy and my Dean.
And I would go to hell and back before I let anyone – or anything – take them from me.'
'Because if something else upsets my baby – or my four-year old, for that matter – then that thing's toast, with no apologies for my actions. Sam and Dean first.'
I enjoyed reading your story.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Awww, such a sweet and sad John story. Loved all of the visual you are so famous for, in this piece. The picture of a devastated John holding a sleeping Dean with his hand on Sam's chubby leg? GUH! It doesn't get any better. John's thoughts were melancholy and prophetic all at the same time. You also had the very real emotion of someone not really wanting to deal with other people during this time. That's what makes your stories so believable. Because you write them so honestly. Thanks so much girl!

Wow, you certainly managed to get into the mindset of early pre-series John very well. I find all his thoughts very believable and true to his character. Not to mention how heartbreaking and tragic he sounds right now. I like the added Clown touch as well, sure would explain Sam's fear of them. Clowns are creepy. Charity

Ahhh *sniffle*... that was so sad, but so sweet. It's weird to think of John ever being just a dad who knew nothing of the supernatural (even though I know we see snippets of him like that on the show, we never really see DAD John as just a dad). His interactions with his boys here were adorable, even though they were sleeping - I loved how he "rescued" Sammy from the clown mobile (and nice little explanation there of Sam's clown phobia!) I loved him patting Sammy's leg - fat little baby legs are the cutest thing ever, and I like to think of Sammy's :-)
Poor John, still remembering Mary so intensely - even to the point of hearing her chiding him for being a bit antisocial! I loved him correcting himself that he hadn't actually lost everything in the fire, because he still had his boys. And I liked the little hints of things to come... salt and burn... and avenging Mary's death... even though we all know what that-all is going to do to his relationship with his boys :-(
