This is really good...so many try to write period pieces but don't get the language right. You are spot on! Well done.

Edward must be the oldest or at least it sounds like it cause he sure knows how to get those brothers of his moving. Why does Edward keep calling himself names? I've noticed that twice now. You can tell he works desperately hard. Hands have to be extremely calloused to snag a quilt. ty for the update, I'm thoroughly enjoying this story.

Yeah, I kind of agree with Edward there about the Mr. not taking care of his family as he should have, but it had been Bella to stop the soldier. Mr. should have let her do it when she first held up that gun. Hmm, seems as if Edward may be falling a bit and will really have to decide if he wants to leave or not.

The baby didn't like my voice so close and set to wailing. Here she was only in this life a couple of hours and already telling a grown man what to do. I LOVED THIS LINE YOU PUT IN. STILL GOING STRONG.

Interesting story. You might want to fix the summary though. You put 1986 as the year of your story but your story sounds like it took place soon after the civil war?
