| Dunedain ranger of the north chapter 8 . 11/1/2013
I know this may sound weird but I hope "Otto" and Berta get together. Please update soon, I want to find out what happens next!
| Kaplan Au chapter 8 . 7/19/2013
This story is awesome! Keep updating!
| Sgt. Moffitt chapter 8 . 7/17/2013
Oh, poor Newkirk! I think you get the pain and confusion of his slowly returning memory across very well, and his relief on rejoining Berta and Sigmund is understandable, if regrettable.
The complications involved with no one knowing the complete story...yikes! At least Hochstetter let it slip to Metzger that Newkirk had lost his memory.
How ironic that Hogan and crew need someone with lockpicking skills since Otto's inadvertent use of the same got Metzger arrested in the first place. And that young underground member who thinks he knows of someone in Hochstetter's entourage who might be sympathetic to the cause...can this be a way for Newkirk to redeem himself?

So glad you are back, love this story.

Really strong chapter. You have Hochstetter perfectly in character, brushing past poor Otto to take credit for the big discovery and telling him once agai. That he looks like a scruffy mess. Otto's inner monologue is fascinating - you do. A great job of letting little bits of memory poke through. My favorite scene was of Otto channeling a certain small Frenchman and then automatically kicking into an act of innocence while more memories flood his mind. I think you have great insights into the Otto/Newkirk character! Please keep going - I am really hooked!

Oh, Newkirk. Amazing people with your lock-picking abilities even when you're not properly yourself. *grins* Great job on this so far! It's an interesting plot, you've got everyone in character and well-written, believable OCs to boot, and the story is not littered with spelling and grammar mistakes. Really, I can't ask for anything more; I think you've covered it. I hope you stick through this until the end, as I want to see how it all plays out.

I am eagerly awaiting the next plot twist, and I have a theory that there may be a surprise about Herr Metzger's loyalties.
| Belphegor chapter 7 . 4/12/2013
You are very, very good at irony. That first scene alone really showcases that, plus the "for want of a nail" concept - if only LeBeau and Wolfe had been closer, if only Vogt had seen, or even glimpsed Newkirk prior to this story, he would have recognised him and... And I have no idea what would have happened, or if it even would have been good for Newkirk. It certainly would have been good for Metzger :-/
"he sensed a familiar personality in Major Hochstetter, and that made things a little better. It was the personality of someone who expected to be respected and obeyed." Are you telling me that "Otto" is sensing something somewhat similar to Hogan in Hochstetter? Boy, I wonder who would be more incensed, Hogan, Hochstetter, or Newkirk if he *was* aware of it...
"As long as they don't find his illegal radio, he will be safe." I should have known, at this point, what would happen. This is just tempting fate! And Wolfe's line about their visit to the morgue made me shiver. Poor Louis. Looking for Newkirk there must have been horrific.
And oh, this last scene... On one hand, it's good to see some part of our Newkirk breaking the surface; on the other... I really wouldn't want to be Herr Metzger :(

Oh I hope Metgzer didn't think our poor Newkirk has become a traitor? Pls update soon! Btw shouldn't poor Otto be experiencing bad headaches and dizzy spells with such a serious head injury?
| snooky-9093 chapter 7 . 4/10/2013
Oh, no. This can't be good.
| NickTonyK chapter 7 . 4/9/2013
Poor Newkirk, helping the enemy. What a shame!
| Sgt. Moffitt chapter 7 . 4/9/2013
Wow. Angst isn't really my thing, and I was hesitant about starting this story, but so far (after a rather painful first couple of chapters) it's lived up to its designation of Friendship/Adventure. A lot has happened in the brief space of time since Newkirk, LeBeau and Astor were ambushed by Hochstetter's patrol in the barn. (And LeBeau's internal dialogue regarding barns in general was hilarious, and just what I might have expected from him.)
Poor Otto's bewilderment and anxiety to do the right thing is exceptionally well portrayed, and I can well believe that he might let his lock-picking instincts take over, considering his muddled state of mind. Even to the point of unwittingly aiding Hogan's worst enemy!
Very, very well done. I hope to see another chapter soon.
