Reviews for Love's Austere and Lonely Offices |

![]() ![]() ![]() YYou really should have been the head writer for the show. Your stuff is so much better and funnier. You also do better research than they did. Two thumbs WAY up! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Aw...so cute! I love fics showcasing House and Wilson's friendship. House and Wilson against the world! ;) |
![]() ![]() ![]() Love these quiet, tender really set the tone. Enjoyed it tremendously. - 4plato |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh, I loved this! The dialogue is great. And it's so in character: House being totally selfish as usual, using Wilson as a live-in maid more or less but then coming to the rescue anyway (whether Wilson needed rescuing or not). Lovely. |
![]() ![]() ![]() It's one of my favorite poems, too. Lovely story. The events of the finale are so grim that, while I've written a very short crossover springing from it, perhaps ignoring the whole damn thing might not be inappropriate. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Cute! This is interplay between them like we used to get on the show. I've never seen those two as slash, but I do miss their give-and-take as friends and the natural banter they had. This fic also shows that it's bilateral; so many have House as the one never giving anything (false even though he says that's how it is) and Wilson as the pure-motived one always sacrificing himself (baloney). Must admit, though, what cracked me up was that it obviously is TYPICAL that Wilson gets sedation for dentistry. Such a routine that House automatically and correctly assumes it, and it's happened not just for this complex appointment but many times if not all in the past. I haven't ever had sedation at the dentist myself (up to and including root canals), but I have heard a few dentists on the subject that men are the biggest dental wimps out there. Perfectly realistic that he would get regular sedation, and I can see Wilson being a total wimp on personal pain. But it did make me laugh. For all the "macho" image men treasure, women can simply deal with a whole lot more as a general rule. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Aww that is very sweet of you to dedicate this to me! Anyway on to the review. I liked the hint of domesticity (how they are with each other; the "Wilson's side of the bed" line) and the delving into Wilson's personality an characterization, particularly the self-sacrificial martyrdom thing he has going on and how House clearly saw through it, but it was logical as to how he did (instead of it not making any sense as to how he came to the conclusion, like some people write him). Good job, and thanks again. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh, Brighie, this was just what I needed to pick up my mood! I'm so depressed about what is happening to Wilson on the show, and I needed this so much! I love the whole scenario of House using the sink, for, well, um . . . It sounds just like the stories my husband tells about his fraternity days. House is such a frat boy, isn't he? And then Wilson obsessively cleaning the sink, like he could stop himself. Too Funny! I love the dialog in this. Both House and Wilson can let their inner sarcastic b*tches out with each other like no one else can. My favorite: "Is this some new level of martyrdom you have to master before you get your Joan of Arc poster for the fridge?" And I loved the curly straws! Of course, House gives Wilson Rachel's old straw. Obviously, it's a subtle challenge to Wilson's masculinity, but it's also undeniably sweet and sad that House would save it. And, speaking of sweet, the way he takes care of Wilson is just that, in the same way Wilson upgrading the apartment for House is, too. God, I love these guys together. I'm looking forward to your Christmas story. I'm thinking after the show's finale, we may be in desperate need of it. Anyway, another wonderful story! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hahah I loved this! House and Wilson are like an old married couple. So cute! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Yay for a Wilson sick with something that isn't cancer, although dentists...shudder... I can understand the guy shlepping half way across town to go to his usual one, although not so smart to be planning on driving apparently. Great banter between the boys, although I didn't read the summary all the way through and figured that it was more than 'bromance' seeing as they were sleeping in the same bed, and Wilson was spending all his weekends there, and making himself at home :) House caring for Wilson in his usual rough and loud way was lovely, love a bit of hurt/comfort :) |
![]() ![]() ![]() Awwww! |
![]() ![]() ![]() In the past two or three years, their relationship on the show has been damaged in various ways. This was the kind of mutual-concern-without-sentimentality that made them friends in the first place. A nice surprise to find this today. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Much better than chemo! Excellent take on how Housse can care about someone other than himself! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I just realized I didn't tell you how lovely this was. It's a nice antidote to the horrors of these recent episodes. |
![]() ![]() ![]() You should definitely do more House/Wilson. It nourishes a part of my soul that has been starved these past two seasons (it might just be me, but IMO there was also a dearth of good Wilson this season). Wilson has as much of a problem asking for help as House does. The things those two do to downplay their medical issues ... I enjoyed the gradual switch from House being a selfish hedonist blocking all the apartment's resources, eating Wilson's food, hogging the remote control, to House in caring mode (quick and efficient even as he is loud, abrasive and boorish). Liked the touch with Rachel's straw. Since House has a matching one of Yosemite Sam, he probably bought them specifically to keep her amused. "You've been friends with me for years too," House said. "Look what that got you." House, think twice before you wean Wilson off long-term habits. Great repartees, and House with his quick tongue is spot on. I must warn you, you'll probably be named honorary member of Sick!Wilson and be inundated with invitations to Camp Sick!Wilson next summer. (And I sincerely hope you aren't dealing with personal issues in this fic ...) |
