This is a very creative story.

Dumbledore should be sacked. Year 1 he hires Voldemort and sets traps to test Harry. Year 2 he hires a rapist. If he had any care for the students he’d turn over hiring to McGonagall, at a minimum.

While I do love this story and have reread it a few times, I feel this chapter is the weakest in the entire story.

I'm sure it seemed like a funny thing to throw Harry in as an "MC" to the tournament when you first did this, it makes no sense in how it's explained nor how it ends up being written.

1 - It starts with Dumbledore acting like the idea is all on Harry, making it very clear he is doing it as a punishment for the 9 champions. Harry and his guardian could and SHOULD have argued against this considering he only did it all in order to not be picked.

2- When Harry and Sirius go to stop this, it's suddenly a trifecta of Malfoy and idiots forcing Harry how to do it? How does this work? How does it go from a headmaster's punishment to essentially free and forced child labour and exploitation for a publicity stunt? And how does this NOT get legal action?

3 - The Black/Potter social standing comes across as just an attempt to avoid the Ancient/Noble House of partial canon. The Potters are/were extremely wealthy and the majority of Malfoy's political power is from HIS finances. This type of argument always ends up ignoring the fact that Harry/Sirius are capable of forming political alliances in order to increase their own political strength short-term until they themselves are movers and shakers.

4 - The build up to the duelling tournament and its execution was disappointing. Aside from Harry's absent-minded description, everything he describes would have been obvious for the smart Harry of the story. The commentators came across as one-note idiots and the entire scene felt designed to once again push the blood ward like/hate concept you created at the start of the story. And speaking of..

5 - The blood wards and how they cause people to see Harry and the Boy-Who-Lived as different identities is an interesting explanation for the public's attitude towards Harry in the books. The problem comes from the fact the story won't be tackling this magical influence so each time the "why did magicals expect so much from the BWL but treat his as a complete toe-rag?" and other highlights of this dichotomy in attitude are actually pretty meaningless for the reader.

We all know everyone treats Harry as two different people. The story gives us a valid reason why even if the characters don't know it (yet). Any nudge-nudge, wink-winking that continues to point it out is redundant.

So yeah, as much as I love this story, this chapter has always rubbed me the wrong way. It feels like a joke idea that momentarily took control of the story and ultimately wasn't as funny as it thought it was.

Oh I love it. Yes I can totally see Vernon kicking Harry out for the night and then 2 dark curses fighting for dominance and Harry winning. Excellent and out of the box thinking.
