|Reviews for The Present is Not the Same|
| alexindigo chapter 1 . 9/16/2012
Good and realistic portrayal of what could happen. I just discovered your story and while I'd like to think that Booth is not as vindictive as portrayed here, I can't deny that it is a possibility. I've read many post finale fics that portray Booth as the injured party, having to go back to an empty home and without the presence of his partner and daughter. Yes, I think he'll be hurt and upset. I like your bowling ball analogy. Your discussion about the evidence makes sense too. I really don't like the writers portraying Pelant as some comic book Super!Villain who is seemingly all powerful. It's all well and good to have dismissed the evidence against Brennan as circumstantial but like HH said, there needs to be tension, apparently. Ugh.
However, I'd like to believe (hope) that the Booth who has been sharing a home and life with Brennan for the past year would understand why Brennan did what she did and that while there may be tension and hurt, it may not escalate to this level of scorn and perceived betrayal. Heck, I don't even LIKE Booth and yet I think I give him a little more credit than his so called stans do.
If you have the time, do read these two good post finale fics by razztastic and casket4mytears. They seem to grasp that there's more to B&B than the superficial and also understand Brennan's heartache. Thanks for sharing. :)

This is so realistic... but so, so sad. I mean I want there to be some tension/angst after Brennan and Christine return home. You cant just run away from the person who loves you along w/their baby... but this. This hit me in the feels. Hopefully their reunion isn't this sad. Lets hope for a happy ending in the end.

Yes. You really have written a very realistic portrayal of how this could play out. I really like the way that you demolished the case against her and the FBI -after all they are professionals-find the bomb. I do think that they will find their way back to each other more easily than this. Booth is a good dad, a practiced dad, and I think they while they have never been good communicators in some ways, they do understand each other in other ways more than many people. But the story was really excellent. I agree that Max is probably more like your portrayal than what we have seen in the show, dangerous and a little controlling. Anyway, thanks. Plans for a sequel?:-) Michele

Great fic. I can also see Max getting a little too controlling in this situation as well.
Thanks for a great one. I just wished they did get the romantic reunion. :-) maybe next season

Wonderfully well written with so much authenticity that the show cannot/woudn't touch, making this literature and not TV. Nicely done. Probably my favorite line that just sums up the whole situation in both TV and this story:
"I'm not mad." Booth insists. "I'm sad. Look, if you drop a bowling ball on my foot, I'll understand you didn't mean it, but it still hurts."
| Mosaika chapter 1 . 5/28/2012
It's so sad and full of angst! But excellent. Thank you!
| a2zmom chapter 1 . 5/24/2012
This is extremely well done.
I tend to think that Max here is a bit more extremem than he actually is - I don't see him putting his granddaughter's life in jeporady like that but I do think he's a lot more paranoid and dangerous than he seems to be portrayyed on the show. He has to be a lot more savvy than he appears to be.
I am almost certain the show is going to gloss over the many problems that would occur after Brennan skipped town. I suspect there will a few moments of angst and then it will be like nothing ever happened. Your scenario is a lot more realistic.

Very sad, but I liked it.
You know what's the saddest thing about it? That it even make sense. It could possibly be plausible, it felt so realistic.
Congratulations for the angst, but I confess I'd prefer the show won't take this direction :)

This is excellent. Max is the magnificent, controlling, mastermind bastard he's always been...and I LOVE watching Brennan rebel against that and find out that having been taking along might not have been a good situation. Max is just...impossible. And I LOVE how you've shot down all the "evidence" and shown its weakness and how they can be seen to have panicked. Love the FBI finding the bomb on a search of the house. Love how believably *broken* it all is when Brennan returns, how the whole thing has crumbled. This is really excellently thought out. Great work.

Really powerful story! I could so see this happening. Being a fluff-master myself, I hope it doesn't actually go this way... but what interesting drama that would be. Thanks so much for sharing this. It was really great.
| LoveHungerGamesJH chapter 1 . 5/19/2012
This was really sad, I hope this is not the way things are going to progress on 'Bones'. Very good story!
| speaknowbeloud chapter 1 . 5/18/2012
This is amazing - no matter how sad. Honestly I really hope this doesn't happen, because they've had enough angst as it is, but when do the Bones writers ever listen to me? I love how realistic this is, as my stories about these kinds of episodes end up being very, well, not. Please keep writing stories like this, because they are INCREDIBLE.
| my-completeness chapter 1 . 5/18/2012
That was so good! I really enjoyed it. I'm so pleased with the finale and I can't wait to see how it plays out - I actually hope it's similar to this story! Well done!
| AllIhave chapter 1 . 5/18/2012
A very sad but closer to truth take on the finale. Good job.
| cook2 chapter 1 . 5/17/2012
Yes! Yes! Thank you!
After I saw the finale I almost went back to sign up to a certain forum to write out my frustration after I had left the forum over a year ago.
I think you got to the point 100%. They can't be back together without problems. Not without problems in their relationship and not without problems how they write the story.
But when I think of HOW they wrote the episode I still think Brennan did the right thing. I just think the writers screwed up many things in the finale. If she had been put to the system Pelant would probably had put her to the death row in some prison with his magical skills.
I also understood why Brennan compartmentalized as she did in the episode. I've seen some critic of she was too logical. I just think she had to compartmentalize more than ever before. That was her only way to cope with the thing she did.
You wrote the problem I also had with Pelant and other characrters. I think Pelant has been made too much out of this planet. Epps, Gorgomon, Gravedigger and Broadsky all were more believable in what they did or what they were able to do (yes even Gravedigger with her super muscles to carry Booth to the ship). But Pelant is way too skillful in whatever he does. Also how in the hell he could make a clock that is exactly looking the same as B&B have in their bedroom? He had to in their bedroom before that.
And the other thing was the awful stupidity of the Keystone Cops (read FBI). They did not only pull Booth out of the case, but they took his badge and gun. For heavens sake why? He's a civilian now. Also the things Pelant was able to do with computers didn't ring any bell in their minds that Brennan might not be able to do those.
If Pelant is so good in anything he does how in the hell they can get him ever?
Sorry for the rant. It's not meant against you or your story. I just had to get it out of myself.
Your story was good.
