Hope06 chapter 26 . 11/9/2014
So sad that this story is abandoned since it is so so well written.
Maybe it will be continued eventually I am not giving up on it

But so well written I mean that
Play-doh Akumu chapter 1 . 11/7/2014
Right. There is, actually, one last thing I need to say before I move on. I admit, I have been looking for a slash with slow build-up for a long, terribly long, time. They're not easy to find, and I'm glad to see that someone in this community is trying for it. Sadly, that bombed. There was no excitement in this fanfiction's build-up at all. It was bland. I could get more emotional excitement from a chew-toy than I could from this romance. Is it even romance? Can't say. They acknowledge each other, then joke around, then they sleep together (platonically, because heaven forbid), and then they embrace. A lot. I'm not saying hugs aren't great, they are, but are they really the epitome of affection? This isn't Roger Rabbit. As a reader of slash, I could use a bit more enticement.

HUGS. Honestly. It's like I'm reading 3 year old Disney porn.
Play-doh Akumu chapter 26 . 11/7/2014
In some ways, this fanfiction excited in me. In other ways, it disappointed.

There's a good sense of politics here: what's happening when, how, and who it concerns. The Order meetings and dinners were interesting to read, simply because all the jumbled tactics of canon were reasoned out and furthered. Personally, I also appreciated how Harry Potter's character intrinsically understands how to use people's greatest assets to his advantage, such as employing the Weasley twins and setting up leaders of the DA.

The things that irritated me, however, grew worse with time. This incessant need of the author's to say, over and over, that Harry Potter is older than his age. It really is an immature standpoint. Potter is the age he is, 16, and that should be accepted, and go without saying. Instead, every relationship he has is somehow affected by this "he's older than he actually is" idea. More so than that, the whirlwind of emotions that led to the blood wards falling, was never actually developed. I saw very, very little growth in Potter's mental state from then to now, despite the dedication the author put into writing it. He still Occludes badly, and he acts like a baby about facing his darkest memories. Constantly repeating that Potter is old in spirit? That sort of babble needs to be backed up with actions, thanks.

While we are on the topic in general, I am so terribly tired of having everything explained to me. That's such an obvious sign of bad writing. If I wanted a 2000 word essay on wards, I'd read the Harry Potter wiki page. Why not, I don't know, actually let something happen? Too often the chapter starts AFTER the action has happened, or, goes over the sequence of events MINUTELY. It reads like a pathetic slice-of-life.

But, it seems to me that the worst atrocity of this fanfiction is its sheer lack of personality. Literally every character (and I am not exaggerating on this point) is the same person. The only thing that varies is the role they play in the story. But literally, characters will say the same lines in different ways, over and over. Over and over. If the author has trouble writing characters, then they should reference the people around them, NOT re-purpose the same person over and over! It's sloppy. It's lazy.

My last, and perhaps most significant, criticism is this: The emotional aspect. And yes, this does include the HP/SS portion, although it is not limited to it. The emotions are over-psychoanalysed. The characters themselves psychoanalyse every. single. emotion. that they have. Not to mention, characters are somehow intrinsically aware of what others are thinking, such as when Snape deduces that Potter pre-emptively forgave Dumbledore WITH NO BASIS OR EVIDENCE AT ALL. On what planet is this accurate? On what planet is this accurate FOR MEN? Last I checked, half-baked intuition was a woman's trait. This over-appeal to emotion leads me to believe that the author is incapable of writing male protagonists. This complete lack of sexual drive, and complete and sudden emotional dependence, makes this slash sound more like an unhealthy friendship between two women-folk. I am completely baffled by this portrayal of a hormone-ridden boy. It's nearly as bad as canon itself was.

I could go on, but it would just be a waste of my time. It was fun while it lasted, but the mistakes grew too frustrating for me to ignore or forgive. Somehow, I regret investing as much time as I did into reading this. It really doesn't improve with age.

PenguinBandit523 chapter 26 . 7/8/2014
Such a great story so far!

I like the pacing of Harry and Severus's relationship; that they didn't just get right into sex, there is emotional and personal appeal.

So many things going on, I can only guess at what could happen next.

I'm excited for what's to come :) and anxiously await the next update.
