This is a very fresh story. Must be hard to slip an entire story line into what we take as canon. I enjoyed Mary's reflections on her current state, the description of the ride, the weather, Matthew jumping into action (although I am concerned for his back) and how he reacted when seeing her on the ground. Glad Diamond's fine. Great start. Looking forward to more.

So I love it! I love any fic where one of them is hurt/ paralyzed/flu ridden and the other one is all angsty and concerned. In fact I could happily spend a whole day just reading hurt M/comforting M fanfics (with either character playing either role.)

I love the idea of Mary trying to ride away from her pain. And sob Matthew finding her and carrying her and finding her light but limp. Nice detail with him flashing back to the trench- I do think one thing DA fanfic writers do a consistent job on is showing Matthew is haunted forever by the war. I like the way you injected that detail, and him reigning it in felt totally right for the situation. And the last detail about her arms not belonging to her-sniff.

This is just a brilliant start. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

My favorite part:before pressing her heels firmly into Diamond's sides and urging him forward. At least he didn't seem to doubt her capabilities... Haha despite the drama it made me laugh.
