How nice to log into my e-mail - and find a New Story Alert waiting for me! :)
I thought at first you hadn't shown me this one, until familiar lines began leaping out at me. As always, your ability to merge poetry and storytelling into a single structure is beyond belief, while the comparisons between Olivia's loss to that of Corinne's and Alicia's is a true reflection of all that is vintage V.C.A.
I like the idea of Malcolm's death hitting Olivia in the last way she ever expected. While theirs was far from a fairytale and even a happy marriage, I believe they loved each other, even if it wasn't the same kind of passion Garland and Alicia shared, or Corinne and Christopher. I thought it a nice turnaround line of Malcolm's, too, when he told Olivia not to be alone. It's nice to assume he might have been thinking of his childhood, and how often he pushed people away. I don't think such a thing has ever been proven a fact, in the canon, but I can't help but think it for myself, since M's journal in Thorns paints him as someone full of bitterness and loneliness.
It's great to know you have an interest in expanding upon this story; I look forward to reading anything you come up with!
