Really enjoying this story so far! That was a powerful confrontation. Merlin said all the things that needed to be said. As I hoped he would.
And Arthur made a real mess of things... As of course he would.
Can't wait to see what happens next.

Wow, this is a new take on things for sure. Intriguing. Lucan almost has me convinced...
But those last few sentences broke my heart a little.

I really like it when Merlin stands up to Arthur’s abuse. Have you read the story “Disillusionment” set after series 4? I would like to see Arthur follow in Uther’s footsteps (because he is weak) and Merlin defending people with magic from his tyranny. Please keep Merlin’s magic a secret for as long as you can for that’s what makes everything very interesting. Hope to see next chapter soon. Will Mithian also make an appearance?

The injustice of it all. Arthur gets his wife, his kingdom. Merlin has to kill Morgana who is/should be his true love instead of finding a way to save her. Just makes my blood boil.

Oh my gosh! The most amazing, most satisfying chapter! ALL the words got said. REAL progress is being made on the magic laws. Merlin FINALLY understands that he's PERSONALLY important to Arthur, as his FRIEND. It HURTS that Merlin's leaving, but it's so important for him to be able to find himself again. I'm glad he's doing it, but I'm even more glad he's deliberately left the door open to come home again. AMAZING!

I'm loving your realistic portrayal of the people's (both common and noble) reluctance/ hesitation/ uncertainty around magic, even after having seen it used to their benefit. And that Arthur's clever enough to realise the return of magic is going to be a process. I do wonder if the food issue might come into it in the end. It's one thing to be saved by violent and terrifying magic, and another to be provided for in the gentler, more essential ways like preserving food for longer, or ending a famine. The cooks reaction to the cheese wheel got me thinking...
