Reviews for Where the Grass Grows Green II: On Bended Knee
LionsEscaped chapter 1 . 11/7/2020
This is a Crappy fic from a shitty person who either themself or their friends go on anon to leave nasty reviews on people's fics after the person doesn't respond back kindly to their rudeness. Also, you clueless tard my fics are of an unpopular pairing and for the pairing, they get more comments than most fics. And saying to please comment is not begging it's something every author does. What's pathetic is you and your friends who are likely only able to get reviews for your poorly written works by making threads of comment exchanges.
Elessar's Daughter chapter 14 . 9/27/2020
I just finished the latest of many rereads, and this series never disappoints. The premise allows for so many interesting character interactions and ethical dilemmas that just couldn’t happen in other fics but make for a singularly fascinating story. Where else can you find Glorfindel and Éomer or Éomer and Bergil working together. Or a story that explores the fact that Mablung’s allegiance/devotion is still first and foremost to Faramir, who he knows and loves, over the king he never met. Or maybe the worst dilemma of the whole series so far, can you surrender to Sauron, the embodiment of evil, even to save the lives of your king and people.

Another thing that I particularly enjoyed this time through was just how well you write Aragorn’s caustic nature. That is to say, so many other author’s fail to capture how scathing he can be, and I really appreciate being able to read an Aragorn who seems so true to form. I have a couple of theories that could be spoilers if they happen to be true, so I am going to shoot you a PM. I would love an update, but again, thank you for putting so much work and talent into this epic.

I've really enjoyed your writing during quarantine! You put so much work into your stories, for no reward besides our enjoyment. If you are able to update this I would love to read it, but I completely understand real life so don't let that make you feel pressured! Hope you and yours are doing well.
v-the-valiant chapter 1 . 8/25/2020
It has been a really long time since you have updated your story, so I feel you have probably moved on in your life, but this is by far and beyond the best LOTR fanfiction, probably the best fanfiction I have ever read. I would love to see you continue your story. I love your characterization of Aragorn and especially Eomer. I am fascinated by the way you switch from the historian's voice to the character's voice seemlessly. Your plot is extremely believable with quality writing, truly bringing your world to life. My one slight negative - belaboring Aragorn's sufferings of martyrdom through his hunger strike... but really minor slight, because overall just AMAZING

Again, please consider returning to your story. I would love to see you finish your six books as originally planned.
Despo chapter 16 . 7/15/2020
Hi Ragnelle,

I just reread your whole story. It is (still) one of my absolute top favourite Lord of the Rings fanfics (the only other one on that list is Canafinwes "Eagle on the Ramparts", which I highly recommend reading - it tells of Thorongil in Gondor).
Your story comes to my thoughts often and I read it once or twice every year. Always, I can immerse myself fully in the story, and loose myself in the world of that mine in Mordor...
I really love a good Dunedain story. There are far too few out there. The dynamics and doings of the Rangers of the North is probably the one aspect of Tolkiens world which holds my biggest fascination. So, thank you for writing! Love you! :)

I imagine, you might tire of this question, yet I cannot help but ask: Is there a chance you might start writing again on this story?

Hope you are well!

LadyOfAnfalas chapter 12 . 1/27/2019
Finished my readthrough in a day. I love all the characters in this section so much. Aragorn's struggle to figure out his duty when every choice is wrong is extremely well depicted, as is the men in the mine's various reactions to him. I like all the characters so its hard to pick out a few, but Apam with his completely different view of loyalty, Haldor with his development into a leader, Thalion with his vision and his complex motives, and the MoS with his all-around horribleness are all fascinating. The Mouth is really a great, hateable villain.

Your prose is, as always, beautiful. I like how this book has a kind of motif of water mataphors and references, especially in relation to Aragorn. Its also deeply emotional. I cried over Pippin this time through, but I think the most tragic and well-handled part is Elrohir's fate. We can see how much it effected Aragorn, and the small, occasional references are very powerful.

I never noticed the reference to Black Fleet sailing up to sea or up the coast before, but now I'm wondering if those men have a further role to play. Or maybe it was ultimately futile. I had forgotten Nagid's designs on Dol Amroth, but I'm guessing he's the captain from book one. I'd also forgotten that the narrator got some of this from his grandfather, but I still think he's Barahir, so I'm guessing either my theories about Faramir's reasonably-impending demise were wrong or its his other grandfather. There's one quote about the number of rangers in Mordor that confused me; towards the end of chapter ten:
"'I found none other of those that rode south with us,' Haldor answered. 'But only ten have I seen since the battle, and we do not know what fate the rest met.'"
All the other places in the book I noticed said that, counting Haldor and not Aragorn, there were twelve rangers in the mine at first and nine when Aragorn came. He was talking about Seron just before, but that would add one more, not less. Unless I'm misunderstanding something?

Anyway, WGGG is still the best fanfic I've ever read, and while I know that RL is busy or you've lost interest, if you do decide to continue the story I'd be really happy.

Gosh, this a hard read! xD In the good sense, I mean this is heavy stuff, I can't imagine how it must be to write it!
It's a great story and have enjoyed a lot reading it. I can't wait to see how it will continue, and if they finally free Aragorn or not!
I wish you all the inspiration in the world. I know it is very difficult sometimes to find time to write...
Thanks for the story!
