|Reviews for The House of Elendil|
| n0mster chapter 1 . 5h ago
An intriguing start, I'm not too familiar with the history of Middle-Earth beyond LoTR and the Hobbit, so the numenoreans and their changed history is definitely interesting. Certainly curious to see what effects the presence of the High Men will create in Westeros, though hopefully events that unfold will have less tragedy in it. The hints of foreboding of the future in the form of potential enemies from their lost homeland also piques my interest and I look forward to seeing what else you have planned.

Great story so far. I wondered if Isildur would be caught or not.
| vincent1875 chapter 14 . 3/7
Good chapter. You'd think that they would screen anything the king eats or drinks.
| vincent1875 chapter 9 . 3/7
Interesting that you didn't just kill Viserys off. Story is going strong so far.
| vincent1875 chapter 3 . 3/5
Ah, so that's why they're still alive? Three hundred years makes sense. It seemed like the Targaryens ruled much longer than that. I read the current date in Westeros in the thousands for some reason.
| vincent1875 chapter 1 . 3/5
Decent start but I wonder why Elendil and the other Dunedain are living so long. A few hundred years sure. A few Thousand years though? That seems entirely too long. Where exactly are the Dunedain lands? Where exactly is Middle Earth in relation to Westeros?
| hotrod 333 chapter 15 . 3/5
Oh dear I can already see what happens if Sauron does come to the 8 kingdoms.
The White tree of Elendil will burn.
The Dire wolf Of Stark, the Lion of Lannister and Stag of Baratheon will be skinned and their heads will be turned into trophies.
The Falcon of Arryn will be stuffed as a trophy.
The Rose of Tyrell will grow again.
The Fish of Tully will be served for dinner.
And the Great Eye of Mordor will burn all of Weterose and nothing will stand against growing darkness.

I thought that this fic was going to suck and i feared that you weren't going to be faithful to Game of Thrones but it's amazing. Now i fear that you are going to be faithful to Game of thrones.

I'll second that I enjoyed the convo with Thoros on the One God thing. Hell, we see that Red Priests seem to interpret and act in oddly different ways, just look at Thoros, Melly, and the poor priest Victarion came across. Who knows where that fits into the new cosmology? (actually, who knows how it even fits into the original cosmology, lol)
Of course, we have Ned's classic butt-fumble, executed well enough to make Mark Sanchez blush (okay, niche sports reference). But that's Ned being Ned. After that, though, it really hinted at what was to come in this chapter, since events are paralleling the first season/book with the Lannister star on the rise. Except we have Isildur in Jamie's position as the captive, Ned still Dead, but no Greyjoy banzai charge/backstab. Speaking of, it was neat to see this 'new Asha' Greyjoy and the changes wrought on Edmure... not that many changes, really, but the situation is pretty damn different than when we saw him OTL.
Now that I'm done with the latest chapter, I've opted to definitely keep an eye on this story.
Which is actually odd, since I'd never really been interested in much fanfiction of either of these settings. Tolkien's work already covered most of the bases that need covering and is so exhaustive it is hard for me to find an impulse to seek out any genre or topic in fanfiction; similarly, GRRM's work is exhaustive... and also, I hear, he really doesn't like fanfiction, so there isn't much of it at all. I read this fic on a lark, coming from spacebattles, and I'm rather glad I did.

Umbar! Showing up with a lot more style and panache than in the original continuity.
See, though, I'm a bit torn. Basically everything we see about Essos and the eastern realms in SoIF leads me to believe that their being curbstomped by an angry Umbar is just retribution. LOLworthy even. Will it cause trouble in the very long run? Yes, yes, sure. But in the short to mid-run of things? Murder away, guys! It'll keep you busy for at least a generation or two.
And Viserys survives, for once.
I can imagine the Mouth of Umbar coming back with him, and just holding his head in his hands, thinking "longest trip EVER." Then foisting Viserys off on someone - anyone - else.
Makes me also wonder if the rather unique circumstances that gave us our 3 dragons (troublesome as they ended up being) in the original setting will even repeat here. So many butterflies.
| Cap'n Chryssalid chapter 7 . 2/24
This chapter did remind me much of the books, and GRRM's love of food porn. Oh, the delicious food porn.
Aratan also expressed the situation rather more diplomatically then the Hound's "your father's a killer; your brothers are killers; your sons will be killers." Though there is something to be said for amusingly dark frankness.
Anyway. Always good times when a Tourny's afoot.

So the Dunedain aren't that superhuman?
| dannyedi chapter 15 . 2/23
well everything went into the shitter. Can't wait till the next one comes and can't wait for Valandil's chapter.
