Wow! Great interlude. I'm glad Ducky told Gibbs the truth. There are still rough waters ahead but now it seems Gibbs has admitted he can't do it alone! Yea!
| gosgirl chapter 19 . 8/5/2012
Once again, another chapter full of perceptive insights. I really liked the way you had Ducky unknowingly expanding on what Tony had started, helping Gibbs to realise what Abby had been through... knowing full well she'd kept back a lot of it from Gibbs.
You really captured Ducky's voice so well and I loved the little insights into the habits he's got into over the years in trying to treat Gibbs, knowing the answers he's not going to get!
And this is so Ducky - But he saw a chance to help along two people who were very dear to him and to give them the happiness they both so clearly wanted.
And you conveyed Gibbs' continuing inner turmoil so well, and you had me holding my breath wondering if he would retreat... How could he protect her properly when she would put him above everything else, including herself?
Thanks heavens Ducky was there with his calm wisdom - loved this - "And before you make any rash decisions that will have lasting consequences for both of you, think about how important she is in your life and how you have become the center of hers." and this! "We all fear something, Jethro...losing Abby is your greatest fear. You can choose to let that fear control you or you can control it by living your life, with her."
And this had me sniffling coz it says so much about the guy and how alone he's been and how long it's been since he's been in a relationship that matters to him - All he had to do was follow his heart, something he hadn't been able to do for some time.
And that was just so spot on about Gibbs wanting to reclaim his basement, as much from the memories of the other basement he was held in, to wipe those out as much as possible, but also part of the process of reclaiming his house from the memories of being abducted.
It was such a heartbreaking image, him standing at the top of the stairs gazing down at what was usually his sanctuary. And I breathed a sigh of relief when he explained why he was feeling that way to Abby rather than shutting her out. But still in character as he feels his way not only back to health but also emotionally into this new relationship.
That last bit was so full of tenderness... Their arms wove around each other's waist, both of them sighing with relief that they were finally back where they belonged.
and this was just spot on - He hoped that now he and Abby were starting to work things out between them that the basement could be a place they both could share, but it meant a lot to him that she understood how much of a haven it had become to him.
And thank heavens the hoodie is okay! We'd all not be the same without it! And don't think I missed all the neck mentions in there either... thank heavens... and what a tough question..."You really are gonna try and get me naked any chance you get aren't ya?"... snort and a welcome LOL at the last line, after all the emotion and angst.

Hallelujah Gibbs'red hoodie is back ! And yeah that's a good hoodie ! *cheesy smile* Adults can have blankies too, can't they ? Abby had already a farting hippo, but Jethro's more sexy and smells better ! He can make such a good pillow, smells Old Spice, is always warm... fluffy bott... chest ! "Please don't say I'm comfortable !" ("Rio Lobo"-1970, John Wayne as Cord McNally). XD
Like how you show us Ducky, calm, always frank. He's tired too...
Love that scene where Gibbs stands at the top of his basement's stairs, with Abby. "When you fall off your horse, get right back in the saddle", they say. I think a sawhorse will do the trick, if those brutes didn't break them all. This place is yours, Gibbs. They're gone for ever.
Ow, don't dump Abby, Jethro ! She's your "lovey", your Teddy Belle, for so long. And she's eager to ravish ya thoroughly, it seems, stripping you down and going over your body with...hem... Poor guy... ! *grin*
Thanks a lot, dear writer. 75 to 85F for our worshipped hoodie, fabric softener-no dryer. Don't want it to fade or to shrink (aaaagghh !), for crying out loud ! ;) Can I depend on you ?
Meanwhile, take care, Gibbsredhoodie. Always.

Sweet! Gibbs red hoodie will be nice and clean and so freaking hot on his body!
I'm so glad you didn't go with a darkGibbs! with his feelings about how Abby reacted to his abduction. I know he's gonna feel some regrets, but I'm glad you didn't have him push her away...
LOVE THIS... "Gonna be in trouble when all these injuries are properly healed aren't I?"
"You have no idea." Can't wait!

Absolutely fab - I love your stories as much as I love Gibbs in his red hoodie! xxx

It's a very touching, great chapter, Gibbsredhoodie, full of emotion. Woaw ! The Boss is drained, and even he already knows the coping'stages, it won't be less difficult to get through them. Happily he's with the woman he does love, the "noisy" Abby, so incredibly discreet, able to read all Jethro's qualities of silence. She'll help him to not minimize the trauma, to talk-a bit, if he wants to.
... Oh what a kiss, man ! Hot ! More.
The discussion with Tony is touching, strong, virile. You show us that DiNozzo is really Gibbs'presumptive heir, his worthy "son". It's comforting to have him. Good job, dear writer, thanks.
But something bothers me... the red hoodie... That sweater meant so much for Abby. It was a kind of security blanket for her, like the basement was a sanctuary for Jethro. What about now ? Did ya play yourself a mean trick, Gibbsredhoodie ? ;)
Are you now synonymous with fear, horror and torture ? *tearful voice*
Aww naw, not the red hoodie !

At the risk of repeating myself, another superb chapter dealing with the realistic aftermath of an ordeal like this, and weaving in all we know and expect of Gibbs' demons and Abby's worries, together with the tentativeness and tenderness of a blossoming relationship. All so well written.
Such a tender opening with some lovely visuals of their first 'real' morning together, the first time they've woken up somewhere private and safe. And also you're beginning to raise the heat between them as they both want to give in to the physical longing but his injuries are holding them back.
And this was just lovely, with the double meaning of having years of not believing their relationship was possible and the close call of nearly losing him... 'enjoying the feeling of waking up to something she never believed possible.'
Also liked the tentative conversation they had, and understandable that Abby would still need reassuring that he thought these changes were for the better - fearing he might be having trouble coping with the changes now they were there in front of him, rather than just thought about.
Thought this was so poignant too - 'to wake and find her next to him was like waking up to a new life. One that he intended to hold on to' - we can all imagine how he'd have been by now if he'd spent the night alone with that nightmare.
And then you throw in some realistic worries from both of them... Gibbs not wanting to react like that but he can't help himself, Abby being just as concerned about leaving him. ...'She was just as worried about leaving him as he was about letting her leave on her own.'
And again I so love what you're doing with Tony - and I particularly liked the way he was able to tell Gibbs how Abby was when he was kidnapped, because she's avoided revealing just how much she suffered. So it was good to see Tony being a supportive friend to them both.
I also liked how Tony tried to ease the burden of guilt that Gibbs was feeling about the original case, knowing it's so typical of his boss to take everything onto his shoulders. But it was so refreshing to then read that Gibbs himself was going to try not to descend into a pit of self blame too - that he was going to try to move on. That alone said so much - 'Resentment and guilt had been constants in his life for so long that he didn't need any more. What he had to do for their future, if they had a future together, was to move on.'
And I just loved that Gibbs not only acknowledged himself how much Tony had looked after Abby, and was still looking after her emotional wellbeing too, but that he thanked him. All big things for our Gibbs-y boy...
Again so many deft touches and memorable lines, it's hard to narrow it down. 'It was the uncertainty that had worn away at his mental state of mind, not knowing where she was'... and you know that final line is not an empty promise either, and that he very nearly did do just that.
