This is the most beautifully angsty piece I have ever read. I usually leave angst fics halfway, because my frail heart can't handle them despite craving for them, but I just couldn't leave this. I did, in Chapter 11, I think, that one really tugged my heart strings, but I just came back. Who would've thought? (Me, I love this so much I knew I couldn't leave it.)

Damn. Tony's actions in this chapter have me simultaneously cheering and chilled. I agree with you that Tony has killed when it wasn't strictly necessary. And yet. Those murders haven't been unwanted. So...I'm dark too? ;)

I think this chapter is true to Tony. You say you're worried that Tony comes off as too weak, but the self-lothing is (was) Stark's default. He'd lay down on the wire because he didn't really deserve to live... The fact that he actually speaks his vulnerability is huge growth for Tony!

And now the team can sort everything out and come back stronger. That's badass. ;)

I like the obvious affection and unswerving support between Pepper and Tony. :)

At some point Bruce and Steve should link the times of their conversation and Tony's flight, right? I can understand Tony being hurt that Bruce has discussing him behind his back, but Bruce was clearly defending Tony. That should make him the perfect ally, but it seems that Tony's gonna keep everything in. No flaws with that plan! ;P

I'm confused by the long calls Quaru is allowing. He must be confident that he won't be properly traced, and he's hoping Fury out Stark will let clues about the weapons slip?

Oh man. Quaru is hardcore. Tony's in for a world of hurt, and yet-he's Tony flippin' Stark! He's going to outthink the baddies until he can escape or be rescued.

I'm really curious about the conversation Stark overheard that sent him away. Was it real? If so, who was speaking?
