This is such a beautiful story and a wonderful season 2 au. I think you really capture the essence of Matthew’s season 1 character here - totally in love with Mary and willing to risk things for her, while also totally petulant like he was in season 1 at the flower show and then again when she would not accept his proposal. In canon his feelings were totally hidden in season 2 until the dance. And he was no longer petulant but at the end self sacrificing. I like your Matthew and Mary better. Totally capture their essence. Superb story!

What happened with Patrick? Matthew threatened him but they never figured out what he was doing/why he was so nervous.

Did he leave for good or just until Robert dies?

Little shorter. I know alot happened,maybe even needed to happen but it got kinda old/repetitive so maybe cut out some conversations

I loved this fic and its ups and downs! Even if it's not complete I like that you left it in a point where they're together and happy.

Dearest, where have you been? This story is great and I hope you have plans for it! Of you need encouragement please talk to someone, or me as I have read this story numerous times! I know you mentioned this past chapter the story intimidated you and I completely understand, I have so many ideas for fanfics and I can't seem to find the courage to even start typing. I know I am writing this as a more personal note and we are complete strangers but perhaps I just want to become more involved with fanfics and love to be surrounded by talent! That said, you have an amazing gift, one I wish I had- you're a fantastic writer and I hope you continue with this story!
