I really like this verse! I hope you continue it more beyond Hold 'Em or Fold 'Em. :)

Already liking this verse. Dean beating everyone at poker, yet the reason remains the same: Everything for Sam.
Really touching, looking forward to reading more of this :D

Another great idea.
I like the premise and I'm looking forward to reading more in the verse.
I also liked that you included Sam in Dean's great poker enterprise. It made Dean's sacrifice seems somewhat less matyrish and made it feel more like they were in it together.
Looking forward to more.

I love the idea of the kids playing poker to make a living. They certainly have both the smarts and discipline for the gamblers' lifestyle.

I seem to be reading stories out of posting order as I just read another Gambler one, but that is what happens when one has arrived home after vacation and has found all these wonderful alerts about new stories. :)
We have learned for the series that Dean and Sam are both good at poker. I like how you filled in the history of how and why Dean learned to play poker, plus how Sam became good at it too while helping his big brother develop his skill.
I enjoyed reading this story.
Thanks for sharing another one with us.

This was wonderful. Love the way Dean learned the game of Poker and not just winning but because it was winning for them. Thank you.

Love this. Wonderful story. Great idea.
| FrostedFeathers chapter 1 . 7/26/2012
Waow! That was a great little oneshot!
I loved how both Sam and Dean had practised for so long and then having it finally paid off (literally :P) when Dean won big! It was great! I also liked how you described how Dean first got into poker at the start, it was a little sad but it also showed just how smart and independent Dean was at such a young age, which is awesome! :)
Well done! :D

Awesome that you will make this into a 'verse' :) This was great you showed us Dean's reasons behind learning to gamble and read the fellow gamblers so that he was almost guaranteed to win, and it was obvious that the main reason was Sam. So that Sam could eat, get the clothes he needed and also medication when needed. And what better incentive for Dean! Loved too the you had Dean practicing with Sam, his quick minded brother learning quickly and making Dean work to outwit him.
A great little story thanks :)
| Madebyme chapter 1 . 7/25/2012
This was lovely!
I adored how you explored Dean's psyche to discover the true reason behind his gambling and how it resolves around Sam and family. That it wasn't simply him letting off steam or a hidden talent, but a necessity that he worked hard to excel at.
Thank you for sharing, this was a lovely tale and I think there's plenty of scope for a verse here, exploring Dean and Sam's history with poker and gambling. Take care, :)
| skag trendy chapter 1 . 7/25/2012
I love how you included Sam in all this and allowed him to take as much credit as his awesome big bro.
Can't wait to read more in this 'verse.
| SPN Mum chapter 1 . 7/24/2012
I love how you made the reason Dean became the awesome gambler he is, because he wanted to take care of Sam first, and himself second.
It wasn't even about John. It was about himself and Sam against the world. It makes sense that he would be able to practice with Sam, and that he would be challenged so much by Sam, because Sam WOULD learn the game quickly. Sam would read up all he could on the game, and maybe even point out strategies to Dean, that would make them both better players. No wonder Dean ended up such a pro player, with Sam a close second. lol
Great story! I hope you are meaning that you will start a new 'verse about Sam and Dean traveling around, hunting and gambling. :)

I would be happy with another verse. This was a great short story of early life.

One of my all time favorite songs. You did a great job in painting the picture of their young life. All in all that's probably why they turned out so well! Not like the majority of young people who want everything handed to them. They had to figure out how to get it and be good at it. Just loved this and how you wrote it. Thanks!
