The answer us that all digletts are actually part of the same extradimensional Pokemon, who is hiding just outside our universe, collecting power from it's countless tendrils throughout the world. It even has it's own worshipers, though they don't know that their God is real. You may have heard of the church of the flying spaghetti monster...

Perhaps the dirt IS part of it's body? Diglet should be classified as a ground and time/space pokemon. A direct creation of Dialga and Palkia.

*dramatically poses in Good Guy stance* the diglett is not only a Pocket-Monster, but burrows through trans dimensional space from another realm with only it's head being revealed!
I have seen the body and it is that of *falls down a bottomless trapdoor before can finish*
| Analon chapter 1 . 3/2/2013
That was a really interesting story. A very humorous one, too! I too have wondered what lay beneath, but shrugged it off as one of the many many mysteries of the Pokémon world. You know, like how Pokeballs work? First, I thought it was some kind of sophisticated piece of technology, an atomic fragmented storage unit as I would call it XD. But then, Kurt began to make them out of some apricorns.
