Wow, that was something. Dean knowing just knowing that Sam had to get it out of him. The more he bottled it up the more Dean knew Sam was going to blow (so to speak). Thank you for the story.
| Jimelda chapter 1 . 10/13/2012
Oh man, this was just too good. Dean was absolutely perfect; you write him so well. And their little trip to the petting zoo? Priceless. Sam's lucky he's got such an awesome older brother to look out for him all the time.
Nice job with this. Thanks so much for sharing it with us; I really enjoyed it!
| pandora jazz chapter 1 . 9/22/2012
I felt sorry for both brothers. Sam because of the pain he felt over the loss of Jess and because Dean couldn't help take Sam's pain away.
I think you did a wonderful job of writing the brothers we all knew from the first season.
Thanks again for sharing your stories with us.

Just realized I wasn't logged in for the review I left...Oh well, an extra dose of 'incredible work; you're awesome!' for you! And extra grateful hugs for creating such wonderful work for us to enjoy! :)

Loooooooooved this so much! You not only perfectly captured Sam's pent up emotion and leadup to his breakdown, but you totally nailed Dean. The pain of watching soeone you love struggle with something you are almost unable to comprehend, and all the while knowing that there's nothing you can do but just be there. The agonizing wait for something you don't want your loved one to experience, but you know they NEED to...Just spectacular.
"I could only suspect it was to help him to keep breathing as I knew a part of my brother just wanted to die."
...Tragically true to Sam's character and the situation as it would apply to anyone else. Beautifully put.
"Stop being bitchy." "I'm not being bitchy and I'm not eating." Sam threw himself back against the seat. "Yes you are." I smiled and bat my eyelashes at him. "And yes…you are."
...This interaction was a nice relief from the heartache, and made me laugh out loud! Brilliant!
Superb work, Karen; incredible writing as always! :)
| XxXSilverShadowXxX chapter 1 . 8/25/2012
I'm laying in my bed reading thus fic as a last before sleeping and while I expected an awesome Sammy-crying-scene I didn't expect to cry myself. You seriously had me in tears and ya know what...? It was the ring box that did it. Out of all the times I ha e rewatched the Pilot ep and the ones after I never thought about wgat Sam would have done with the ring had he still had it after the fire. Amazing job on this fic. I commend you whole-heartedly on a job well done.
| Visionairy chapter 1 . 8/23/2012
This was great, but it was very haunting. You describe so well how hard it is to see someone you love in emotional pain, and not be able to help. I was in tears with these lines.
I nodded, suddenly realizing I was the wall that stood solid between Sam and his pain.
"Let him go, Dean," I softly said, backing up until I bumped into the Impala.
So sad and so true. This was a very powerful story!
| esking chapter 1 . 8/23/2012
Why did you do that? Is it really worthwhile to just rip my heart out and stomp on it? I don't think so. Why must you torture me with your beautiful writing and your impeccable characterization and my poor baby moose. You are amazing and I worship at the altar of your genius but you are also evil for breaking my heart first thing in the freaking morning.
| skag trendy chapter 1 . 8/23/2012
A beautiful missing scene from the show, my dear. Heartfelt and tearful. I really wished they'd covered this more closely.
| SPN Mum chapter 1 . 8/23/2012
Awwww, Dean was such an awesome big brother in the early seasons. I really liked how he didn't push Sam in your story. He just stayed nearby, ready and willing to help when Sam finally came apart. It figures it would be after spending the day at a place like the animal park. Jess would have loved a place like that, and Sam never got to take her to one. That must have been the catalyst. I'm glad Dean was there to keep an eye on Sam through his breakdown. Sam knew he was there, and it was enough. There ain't nothing like their brotherly love. :) Thanks for the story.
| SupernaturallyEgocentric chapter 1 . 8/22/2012
Wonderful story, great progression. Love Dean taking care of Sam, walking him through. Horribly sad, but just - really good.
| ziggy.uk chapter 1 . 8/22/2012
This was awesome Karen, heartbreaking but so well written and you were so inside both their heads. Poor Sammy, drowning in grief yet holding it in and Dean so desperate to help his little brother but knowing that Sammy had to handle this in his own way. You could feel both their pain when Sam finally let go and could imagine how hard it was for Dean to hold back and not hug his little brother as he knew it wasn't what he needed there and then.
A really great read and a definite fave.
| Colby's girl chapter 1 . 8/22/2012
Great job! A very poignant look at the suffering Sam must have gone through after Jessica's death. You also captured Dean's own suffering at having to watch his little brother so hurt and broken. Knowing their was nothing he could do to take that pain away. Cheers!
| thesunwillshineclear chapter 1 . 8/22/2012
Aw... Sammy. This was written beautifully and Dean's sort of outsider pov was perfect for this :')
| jensensgirl3 chapter 1 . 8/22/2012
Dean wanted to help his brother through his grief over the loss of Jess, but it was only Sam who could help himself with his grief. Knowing that Dean was right by him has help Sam in more ways then words could, that is Dean always being there for his brother when words don't need to be spoken.
